I really hope the RDA enforces the materials selected for the streetscapes at station center. A lot of what they have listed can be found at Station Park in Farmington. Not only does it look fantastic, it helps soften what is commonly just cold uninviting stucco and masonry walls. It creates an environment were people do want to just spend time relaxing.

Great day for information. Thanks Viperlord.

While I don't love that they are putting and ingress/egress on Main, I guess it can't really be helped with the location. However I believe the Ken Garff building only has the 400 S ingress/egress, unless there is on on the south side of the building that has access to Main St. Does anyone know?

One fantastic aspect of this project is that it eliminates a surface parking lot.

The Apartments where the horses used to be. This is just the side of it on 300 North. It would be more interesting if you could enter it from the street instead of from deep inside, but it's a huge improvement to this street! The development is just massive, this pic doesn't do it any justice at all.

Tear Down the homeless shelter and put it there:

Or build it in this parking area on both sides of the street here; it would build on an area that's already gathering more energy and it's exposed to tourist paths.

The market will go on the north corner of 300 S just west of the Rio Grande. An art museum opseated by the Duarte is planned for the south corner. They will create some anchors for the festival street. The road home isn't going anywhere but efforts are being made to spread out the population and reduce overcrowding.

I also know of more development to come around Pioneer Park. I'm not sure when it will me made public but I expect it will be soon.

My understanding is that the single male population will stay there so the situation shouldn't change much for that block. The real benefit will be felt by homeless women and children.

If you guys want a blast from the past - here's airchecks for hundreds of radio calls in SLC between 1985-2015. It's fun listening to these jingles and thinking back to my childhood.

Well apparently they'll mostly be empty according to this reliable source:

It is my understanding that this is not being built on the corner. It will be going on the east side of the empty lot, leaving space for an additional office building on the NE corner of 500 S and Main.

This statistic is true, but it is referring to Chronic Homelessness.

The chronically homeless, on the other hand, are a subset of the homeless population that is often the most vulnerable. These are people who have been living on the streets for more than a year, or four times in the past three years, and who have a "disabling condition" that might include serious mental illness, an addiction or a physical disability or illness.

The article does state that there still is a large homeless population around 14,000. So yes the Chronically homeless issues has been addressed in a major way, and now they are addressing the remaining homeless population.

Great...now that the word is out, all the other states will be shipping their homeless to SLC.

Thanks for the images, good find.

It's amazing what a reface, bringing the first floor spaces out to the sidewalk and some additional features creating varying depth, can do to greatly improve a structure and the street it is on.

I'm not sure which change is more impressive, the garage of the building on the corner. I always assumed the garage could be improved, with the things mentioned above, but the corner building pretty much looks like an entirely new building.

The building on the corner surprised me the most. It's such a little change and yet it totally improves everything. Overall, though, the whole thing will look a lot better.

I can't wait for the street artwork!

Thanks Irving; I've been really skeptical about how that corner building could be salvaged, but I like it. For now.
