Beautiful shot Tony, and 111 does make a major impact. Also makes me think how much I want to see a few 500-600 footers added to the skyline. Hopefully, starting with the upcoming CCH.

This JW Marriott going up in Nashville is interesting. Only 533 rooms, but 385'.

The Regent Hotel and 151 will fill in that remaining gap perfectly from that angle. And hopefully CCH will be our new tallest and raise the overall ceiling of the skyline.

How cool would it be to get two of these, with one slightly taller and parallel or at 90º

Coincidence?

I was thinking it would be cool to make the CCH a 'horizontal skyscraper.' Of course, that would make it not a skyscraper at all, which would annoy a lot of you.

It would be somewhat similar to this project in Norway called 'Fjordporten.'

I imagined it going along the entire front of the Salt Palace down West Temple.

Funny coincidence, the horizontal CCH rendering and the westward skyline photo look like they belong together! Too bad this isn't already pard of the convention center design with the addition of a tall tower.

I'm having too much fun filtering someone else's picture!

Of course, not. I'm just imagining the building would be as long as a skyscraper is tall, standing just above the front of the Salt Palace. And it would be as tall as a skyscraper is wide. I don't know of many suburban office buildings that are 700-900 feet long.

Wow, I would love to see something along these lines for our CCH. It looks tall and slender and could work on the north site since there is not a lot of property to work with.

Okay, no more speculation. Mathematically speaking, the CCH will therefore HAVE to be 867' tall and 74 stories to fulfill 1200 rooms using the Nashville equation, right?

Math IS the pure science, afterall...

That would be cool EP. We'd need two, given SaltCityScaper's mathematics. One at that circumference pictured would be way out of balance tall, based on the mix that the city/county is talking about.

That's good news. Hopefully they locate downtown and not in the burbs

Minor news:

It looks like the buildout of the last floor in 222 is well underway. Walking up 2nd South you can see the framing and lighting going in. It shouldn't be too much longer for the building to be fully occupied.

I do wish that we would hear about the occupancy rate of 111 as that would help to give indications on when 151 may begin.

With SoFi, I also hope they also choose to be downtown. This could go to increasing the occupancy of 111.

Possible additional news:

http://www.ksl.com/?sid=38909701&nid=148&title=utah-commercial-real-estate-firm-announces-merger

Quote:
Utah-based commercial real estate company Coldwell Banker Commercial Advisors announced an agreement that will make it one of the largest brokerage firms in the nation, company officials said.
Quote:
The headquarters for CBC Advisors will remain in Salt Lake City. The expanded company will employ 450 agents and staff more than 27 offices across the country, Cramer said.

“We’re proud to see Utah companies continuing to grow and pave a path forward for our economy,” said Val Hale, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development. “As long as we support businesses that are willing to push the envelope, Utah can stay strong and solidify our economic dynasty.”
Quote:
About Coldwell Banker Commercial Advisors

Founded by Brandon Fugal, Tim Simonsen and Stuart Thain
Operates as an independently-owned, affiliate member of Coldwell Banker Commercial (a subsidiary of Realogy Holdings Corp.)
Approximately 200 agents and staff (prior to merge)
While this mostly is an increase in agents, this will add a few people to the HQ.

While the employee count isn't high, this does increase the profile for the City having a large (monetarily) brokerage firm headquartered here.

Yes, thank you Viperlord.

Ok, if even half of that vision comes to life, that is going to be an incredible neighborhood. The plans are detailed and I am absolutely loving it. The addition of a market building, the preservation of the Serta Building and breaking up the blocks, this is going to be a very vibrant area of Downtown Salt Lake City.

I do think that in the short term, before a market building is built, that they need to use the Rio Grande as the home of the market, year round.

I also think that they need to consider raising the height limits in the area and allowing for greater density. The neighborhood itself, including office and residential tenants needs to be the largest contributor to the overall success of the retail options. Yes the market and events will bring people from the entire city and region, but I feel that it essentially needs to be nearly self sustaining. I anticipate a substantial amount of retail space in Station Center, combine that with the already existing space in The Gateway and the area needs a massive influx of residents in order to support that retail.

Overall I'm stoked about Station Center though. I'm glad a developer, at the urging of the RDA of course, is rehabbing existing/historic buildings rather than take the easiest approach and build everything from the ground up.

I'm really happy with the patience and persistence that the RDA has had with redeveloping the area behind Rio Grande Station. I think a public market should be a top priority. Public Markets, however, need to be part of a tourist corridor. I fear that placing it behind the station will hide it from tourists.

Tear Down the homeless shelter and put it there:

Or build it in this parking area on both sides of the street here; it would build on an area that's already gathering more energy and it's exposed to tourist paths.
