Have you been in the main entrance to Centrepoint? It's the most lacklustre lobby of an office building I've ever seen. It's like 15' x 15' and has a little security desk. They have to keep a portable heater for the security guards because it's like right at the door. There's a lot of REALLY cheap finishings in the building, Alt exterior aside. Stantec really cut some corners and it's quite obvious and sad.

I was curious on the cost. The total you quoted was for the complete restoration of the facade and it's structural integration with the podium?

Could SHED funding been used in this total as well?

Complete and utter waste of tax dollars and even more ridiculous when you look at the finished project, the old facade is a detriment to Portage Avenue and definitely not an attribute.

^^ Agreed. Let's demo the complete Eaton's façade on Portage Ave but save Mitchell Cop and then incorporate it as an afterthought. Too bad as it can be done right such as RRC in the Exchange.

Winnipeg, MB – Hargrave Street from Portage Avenue to Ellice Avenue will be closed to all vehicular traffic and pedestrians this Friday, February 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until Sunday, February 21 at 6:00 p.m. to accommodate a crane dismantling.

Motorists should allow for additional travel time, and use alternate routes in this area to reach their destinations.

It looks like their ejecting the tower sections and lowering them down with the existing tower crane.

It will make it a lot easier for the steelworkers to take the jib sections and counterweights off with a truck or crawler crane if everything is lower to the ground.

I had noticed late last night that there were parking restriction signs effective for Friday on Hargrave when I came home from work but thought it may be for snow clearing or utility work.

Looks like I have to take the slightly longer way home from work on Friday and Sunday. Going down Portage and Main to EK adds about 5 to 7 minutes compared to going up Hargrage, Eliice and King streets.

Found out today that the U of M architecture professor that runs MAKE Coffee will be turning the Mitchell-Copp entrance/lobby into an art gallery.

On the entrance topic. We had been talking about how the entrance is only on the side of the facade, not through the old entrance. I did see the other day, looks there is a gate on the old front entrance. And it was open with people going in. So maybe they do use both entrances, I'm not really sure.

I know what you mean.

It's just such a strong contrast between the old and new architecture that they both clash with one another.

Yet over at the Red River College downtown campus they seemed to have done it right.

Somehow they're much better integrated with each over at RRC... there is a certain balance. Whereas at Centrepoint the project is almost totally modern with this little old heritage appendage just sitting there out of place.

If the historic facade was larger, say enough to cover the entire Portage elevation, it would look great. In this case, this stupid little "strip" stuck on to the end, with a horrible gap makes it look ridiculous.
