Yes... that's what I was expecting this time out but it just didn't work at Centrepoint.

Agree...It just looks out of place and you loose the modern design to the whole corner. Maybe the facade will come down in 10 years??

lets hope

The incorporation of the Mitchell-Copp facade appears to have been an afterthought, not part of any plan.

If they ever get to demolishing the Calcutta building, I wouldnt mind if they took the Mitchell Copp facade with it.

^I'll agree it looks nice at night with the lighting. But not the most gracious integration with the new building.

I actually don't mind the building at all. FWIW, my 19 year old fiancée told me she saw a nice new black building downtown when we were in the city. It's this building.

Had it been clad in dark glass like X condos in Toronto, rather than chalkboard paint, then it would be.

I agree with you that it could look better. I just don't think it's quite as bad as everyone is making out (unlike the exchange condos we were discussing earlier).

I suppose we will have to wait about 20 years before it gets an exterior makeover.

^ ^ the closed exterior gates of the facade are puzzling, I guess it's purpose is to prevent it from becoming a convenient place to squat..

Check out the Winnipeg Restaurant discussion thread. This was discussed just recently. Apparently, the construction of Brown's Social House is ongoing and they are aiming to open in May.

Shouldn't be hard to do, at least they know what part to take down with that being the area within the Sharpie highlighted!

I just don't understand why the podium is set back like 6 feet from the facade. It makes no god damn sense. Even if you don't actually extend the floors out further, fake it and put glass up behind the old facade so it looks like it's actually part of the building.

I'd get over it though if they actually even used the front door. It's so barren right now. Hopefully when Browns builds their patio it's something semi-permanent to liven up the corner a bit.

Exactly. All it needs is to look like its part of the building. And using the front door would make it part of the street as well.
