I've never had any bad experiences with Save On service. More so in Calgary sometimes I had more than one person asking me if I needed help again and again lol. It is going to be a great addition to the grocery competition in Regina.

It's already having an effect on South Albert, with the Sobeys undergoing complete renovations. Once the Golden Mile work is done, we'll have all these on South Albert St:

- Safeway
- Save On
- Sobeys
- Superstore
- Coop.

Huge selection. Just sucks that there are no grocery stores in Harbour Landing, and likely never will be thanks to the agreement that got Walmart there in Grasslands. Walmart to me doesn't count since their selection is pretty bad, and their produce/deli/bakery sections are pretty awful/dirty.

Looks like Danier is closing stores across Canada which will free up another retail spot at the Cornwall Centre.

I've never been in a Save on. I was making reference to the previous Cdn Tire and the exceptionally poor service (poorly trained / managed staff)....I think the new Cdn Tire in Southland is the same manager and just about every store managed by the same guy has had atrocious service / poorly trained staff.

I will agree with you on the Southland Mall Canadian tire service at times, but then randomly it's like heavens' gates open and there is someone there to help me, rare but sometimes.

They have a great deli/butcher area with a huge selection of specialty meats and cheeses, including a lot of pre-made hot & cold meals that you don't find anywhere else. Plus they seem to have a lot of gluten-free options available.

It definitely has a Sobey's feel but with more unique options and better prices.

There's a slight possibility of a grocery store on Parliament, depending on the agreement made. And West Harbour Landing will almost certainly have a grocery store, but that could take 20 years depending on the economy.

And Wal-Mart probably has the second best produce section next to Superstore.

Where would a grocery store go on Parliament? I also do agree that the Grasslands Walmart has a good selection of produce. I haven't had any issue when I have shopped there.

I wonder in the next couple of years if Metro (other divisions - Food Basics, Super C, Marché Richelieu, Les 5 Saisons, Marché Ami, Marché Adonis) will expand further west to add further competition. Info if you didn't already know -> Metro Inc. operates in Quebec and Ontario. The company is based in Montreal, Quebec and is the third largest grocer in Canada, after Loblaw Companies Limited and Sobeys. Maybe Metro could open up at the GTH too hehe.

With Safeway being in the mall it feels safe to me. It will always have the foot traffic from people shopping to keep it afloat.

A case could be made for Co-op as well. They just spent a lot of money renovating the old 25th ave Safeway but if they were to shut it down and re-open on Parliament I don't think many people would blame them. I can't see Sobey's closing as it has been around for a long time (and probably has devoted shoppers). COOP would be the first to go with a brand new Superstore across the street without a doubt.

I was just looking at google maps and the former gas station land across the street from the Golden Mile looks awful. I wish the city would force them to clean it up so that it could finally be developed. It's quite a huge spot too.

The used to be Prestige Industrial and are now MAC which allows almost any commercial. I believe they were subject to restrictive covenants on retail development related to Grasslands, but I believe those are now gone also. With Grasslands being largely built out, these will definitely get developed. A grocery store is a likely bet.

IIRC, people wondered the sam thing when the Quance area was getting store after store (Safeway, Garden Market IGA (at the time), Costco, Co-op Marketplace, Superstore (and, to a lesser degree WalMart... no major grocery s citron at the time). They've all survived.

Granted, they're spread over a larger distance than 25th to Gordon... but other than the 13th Ave Safeway, this small stretch serves basically all of the south end... Including over to the University (granted, some go to Independant on Broadway) & out to Harbour landing.

I agree, though - if one is to close, it'll be Co-op. Other than attracting people who don't like big box grocery stores, and hard core co-op'ers, it's hard to make the argument for it... Co-op needs their larger format Marketplace to compete in the new South Albert reality. I could see it moving to that parcel on Parliament, though... would be convenient for a harbour a landing folks not to have to go to S Albert for groceries.

With respect to downtown Regina, any word as to what will happen with Stantec's current office space on Rose Street? With them moving to FCCII it leaves a bit of a question mark as to who or what will absorb that space.

It is for lease. It is a large and pretty cool space. It would be nice if the ground floor reverted to retail, but I don't see that happening.
