Yeah, I'm pretty sure those buildings dated back to around the late 70s, which was close to the very peak of the whole "suburbia is the only way to go" mindset. Fortunately, things have changed.

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, as I've been busy moving my family, but is anyone else here concerned that the City's budget has Water and Waste taking out $580 million in debt for the North End Waste Treatment Plant but they are paying dividends (I think it's 16%) from their rate increase to general revenue?

Why is the rate increase going to funding roads when they department desperately needs additional funds?

^ Another tax increase through the back door, like with the frontage levy. But I think you know the answer to your own question. Between the actual property tax increase, increased sewer and water charges, an increased frontage levy and school tax increases, it's shaping up to be a tough year on that front.

From Riverbend to St. James right now... I've just been approved for a partner visa to Australia though, I think we're moving in May.

Isn't Veoila involved in all that sewage treatment plant works? the City and them have some sort of agreement form a few years back. It was a $600m dollar deal I thought.

Also, voters wanted the roads fixed. So that's what they're getting. The Mayor's said it at least once already. They wanted roads, they're getting roads.

For what it's worth, they also did vote for the mayoral candidate with the most ambitious plan for rolling out rapid transit throughout the city.

I don't recall splitting it into its own thread - regardless the new Manitoba Clinic is well underway with excavation and shoring on the main tower now that the lifts for the expansion of the existing parkade are completed.

anyone know whats going on with the old syrotec building herd some internet company bought it and they want to tare it down to build housing and their offices doubt the city will let that fly other then a demolition
