Don't get your hopes up, I think they're just doing some underground utility line repairs for the Chiropractic building next door. This warm, dry winter is wrecking a lot of sewer and water lines.

I would be surprised if the frost is even a few feet down let alone sewer line depth.

I can't wait to see the dome this year. And the photos of FCC are sick. Sick I say. Our downtown is really small where the density is, but those four or five city blocks are outstanding.

The 3 blocks of Hamilton between Vic and Sask Dr. have 13 high-rises, plus a sprinkling of heritage buildings including the Leader Building, Victoria's Tavern and The Capitol. It is also Downtown's retail strip.

I'm hearing it's about 5 to 5.5 feet down. There's no snow to insulate the ground, so in spite of mild temperatures, the frost still got down a ways. Not quite the 7.5 feet from last year...but not as little as you might think.

Urban Climate's pics ought to be on the "<<< One-Million" thread. Regina really does possess Sask's most dominant skyline.

I guess the copper on the dome will be shiny for only ONE year!!! (In due course, it will fade rapidly.

I am hoping we will get lucky and weather conditions will be such that it turns green for a while before it turns black.

I think it will go dark before it goes green.

But a lot depends on any treatments/oil films placed on the copper material, the content of the copper (pure copper vs. copper/tin/zinc alloy) relative sulfur dioxide levels in the surrounding air and relative humidity in the area.
Generally because of our cleaner and more arid conditions it may take a lot longer than the above chart to move into the greens - if it ever does before the supporting structure deteriorates again in 100 yrs.

I posted this in 2014. I don't think it was ever green. This was a hand tinted black and white photo. They were usually done on the U.S. east coast and the artists would assume a copper dome was green.

Looking at the Horizon's at Westerra website, the only tenants disclosed so far are a Co-op Gas Bar and MasterBuilt Hotels - who appear to feature the Microtel brand http://www.masterbuilthotels.com/

They also say it will anchored by a grocery store - probably Save-On?

I can't imagine those hotels being successful, even with the bypass in the general vicinity.

I also wouldn't think that Save-On would want their second location to be there, but maybe they don't want to wait for the NW or East to be available.

Wal-Mart has looked in this area as well, but I'm not sure if that went anywhere.

This site will be the hardest retail sell in the city.

Well the copper on the Globe Theater building turned green, no idea when, Urban Climates google photo is proof!

City council voted against the owners of 13 Leopold Cres. They aren't getting that house off the protected list. (Moral of the story here might be not to buy a house that is protected when the current owners won't let you have a home inspection.) LP says this is the third time the city has voted against the wishes of the owner. Anyone know what the other two are?

The dome will turn black within a year. Air quality differences than Ottawa. I'm not sure why the Prince Edward Building is green. It might not be actually real copper.

I for one will welcome the Save-on-Foods. The closest grocery store is that dicey looking No-Frills on 4th Ave. Next closest is Safeway at Cathedral or an Extra Foods and Normanview.
