I weent to the mall on Thurdsday and saw that the International Clothier location has been shuttered out annd also the Gap loacation too had been shuttered so that makes 4 or 5 empty storefront at CF Champlain and I wonder what kind of direction the mall will follow.

And also on another note would you recommend me starting a group on Facebook to attract a Tagner and Premium outlet for Moncton? I have sent an email to them and I am waiting for a reply.

The mall will follow the direction it always does and seek better quality tenants. This is the normal cycle of the mall after all...Post Christmas is shutter and refill season

Retail vacancy is actually looking pretty good overall in the CMA right now. DT has filled several vacancies in the last few months and is looking quite healthy in general (besides west side which wont improve til DTC is closer to completion)...ALL large vacancies have been filled up such as Riverview Sobeys, Zellers (x2), Princess Auto...Really most of the vacancy is in ugly new strip malls and dilapidated storefronts that need love...thats normal...those landlords need to do better...in general things are looking good

Good to see you back mmmatt, you've been inactive for a while.

You're one of the originals on SSP. You've been around longer than me even. Still keeping tabs on the Moncton wikipedia article????

Yeah I've been very busy with work and a lil guy at home...also my PC bit the dust a while ago and this site is hard to view on my phone haha

I check the forum and wiki every once in a while but have been inactive in terms of contributions.

I hope someday when I have some time to come back with a vengeance and perhaps do some photo-tours and update some stuff.

Very happy that you remain active on both though!

I don't like starting rumours, but just wanted to propose an idea based on a rumour I did here.
So the proposal would be the 2 Dieppe Sobeys locations would close, they would built a new store behind the Irving on Champlain street. Next to it a NBLC store would be built connected to Champlain Street Plaza.
The Irving would be demolished, and in its place a smaller, FastFuel/Needs location would be built (reconfigured to provide more parking).
The current Sobeys & NBLC store would be removed & Irving would build a gas bar on that corner (Regis & Paul)
There would be room on that site for other developments, like Tim Hortons for example if BK were to put an end to the Tims/Wendys combo restaurants or perhaps even Home Hardware could relocate (bigger store, better location, right next to the competition etc.)

Thoughts? Its a slow time of year, so something to talk about

As a thought experiment, it's an interesting concept, especially if coupled with a southward extension of Paul Street.

I believe the long term plan is to extend Paul Street to have it connect directly with Amirault before it crosses the Dieppe Marsh. Presumably this will be a commercial corridor. What eventually gets built here is purely speculative.

This location will also have a Tim Hortons inside. I am guessing the same area as the former Starbucks was in the that location when it was a Target.

That's interesting. I guess this is a complete victory for Canadian culture then, replacing Target & Starbucks with Canadian Tire & Tim Hortons.

This stirs my patriotic soul to the core............

Posted on Max-FM webpage: A new Moncton area Canadian Tire Store set to open in March will be offering double-doubles with your engine oil. The 60,000 square foot retail store on Mountain Road will also contain an in-store Tim Horton's, to go along with an additional 18-thousand-square foot garden centre. Other unique features include a large entrance pool with live fish. The store will replace the smaller Canadian Tire outlet a few miles down the road.

Picture of the Garden Center going up at the new Canadian Tire.

Just a heads up. I do believe this plan has been abandoned.

That rumor had actually started long before they renovated Sobeys at 501 Regis St.

I think there was also a rumor about Champlain Place closing, and the Superstore location on Main street expanding to a full fledged Shopping center in that same time.

I hope that the Sobeys one is not just a rumor, and that Sobeys builds one Sobeys store to replace the Regis St, and Champlain Place locations...

Well, Moncton is probably due for one of the new Sobeys Extra format stores. I'm willing to bet that the Champlain Place Sobeys fits into those plans. It'll be interesting to see if they remodel and expand the store at Champlain Place or relocate it elsewhere.........

It's on the Dieppe future roads plan, so I doubt it's been abandoned.

As for the the Sobeys, I was meerly speculating, but I did here that Plaza was looking to aquire the land behind Irving. And I thought why would they when the current plaza is not even full. So that's there that came from. The other thought I had was Dollaramma, Plaza has a good working relationship with them and their store next to Superstore is rather small.

I hope that these rumours are true and also it would tie into the whole rejuvenation of the downtown core with the new arena project. And would does anyone know if Crombie is planning a parking garage for that area to tie in with the event center.

Also does anyone know the opening date of the McDonalds/ Irving on Mapleton?

I thought it was a Tim Hortons/Irving. But I had heard McDonalds was looking to open a restaurant in the area, so I'm not surpised.

Very interesting. How good is your source??

How will this expansion take place? GoodLife and Shoe Tree are on one side of Sobeys and NBLC is on the other side. Would they expand in behind?

Is this part of a larger redevelopment project of Crombie lands in the area?

Was the Downtown Centre project in any way a catalyst for this??

My source is great I work there!
As for how it will take place plans are still being drawn up.
The new downtown center was a major factor in the decision!

Sobeys Vaughan Harvey to become a Sobeys Extra is great news! I'm quite loyal to Sobeys so this is quite exciting. When is it supposed to start, the expansion and or remodel?
