The O.P. Skags building is for sale... I hope it doesn't get bought and Demolished by by the developer who is ripping down all the cruddy houses around it.

I wish 7-11 would move to that building... It would be really neat... That 7-11 doesn't do gass anyway.

Forgive me for the off-topic post, but I am looking for some ideas for a school project, and I'm always impressed with the body of knowledge here. If you have a favorite suburban TOD development/proposal you've seen, will you PM me the name/location? I am just trying to come up with ideas for a case competition centered around a San Diego County commuter rail station. Nothing too dense/tall as it's not in the urban core, but needs to add some density to the area. Any ideas or suggestions welcome. Thanks forumers!

So it looks like Questar is being bought out. It will be interesting to see whether this affects the business in Utah or not.

Looks like I'll be getting a check in the mail. Sweet!

I to really like the Marmalade project. There is some nice amount of development happening in the Marmalade right now, with this new project and the RDA block project. I love it that it's almost hard to keep track of whats developing where. Marmalade, Central 9th, Gateway, East downtown. Salt Lake City is easily going to surpass that 200,000 mark before the 2020 census.

Throw in the NOTE and Granary Districts as I expect those to start to pop hear in the next year or two and Salt Lake City is going to have some really cool distinct neighborhoods. It's an exciting time to be in Salt Lake City, and now I'm starting to question my out of state interview this coming Thursday.

That parking structure already looks better, just from the removal of the cement between the columns.

The $30 Million for the Gateway is a vast improvement over the last owners $2 Million.

I do hope they can make it more of a destination while also helping locals. A small grocery store, drug store or the like would be great. Bars, Restaurants and such can be on the 4th South side and then more destination and local stores can be on the 5th West side and hopefully can eventually spread out from there towards 6th West, along 1st and 2nd South.

I was just about to come back on and make some of those same comments. Yes a destination is part of it, and with the theater, planetarium, museum, and comedy club it will continue to be a destination, but it can't be exclusively a destination, it MUST provide something for the locals. Feed the needs of the locals first, because those are the people that will support it on a daily basis. As Makid stated, grocery, drug etc. Serve your built in and "coming soon" built in audience. There are hundreds and there are going to be thousands of people living in the Depot/Gateway District and those people will need those local services.

A healthy mix, is what I anticipate will be ideal:
Grocery store, drug store, comedy club, movie theater, planetarium, museum, martini bar, sports bar, dive bar, live music venue (big and small), high end restaurants, mid-level restaurants, quick serve restaurants, art galleries, art studio, dry cleaners, bakery, small live theater venue, national clothing retailer, local retailers, bowling alley, book store, coffee shop, bike shop.

Get rid of the food court and spread those restaurants throughout the mall.

Trolley has made a come back because it is attracting more locals. It's no longer a regional draw like it used to be. Yes it has a few things that will draw people from a greater geographic area, but my guess is that 75-80% of their business comes from within 5-10 miles.

Sugarhouse has a Whole Foods, Trolley has a Whole Foods, there is no reason that Gateway, once the back side develops can't also support a Whole Foods/Natural Foods/Trader Joe's/Sprouts.

They really should tear that thing down and start over.

Ya, I posted those that you are referring to. There was only a rendering for a small corner of the building adjacent to Regent Street

I agree. I have a feeling that they will not be able to remove the concrete walls on the corner... So it will probably be closed in looking. I would like to see a new building that sits back from regent street a bit to open it up and allow for some outside dining.

I would actually like to see a grocery and pet store go in there. They would both be nice additions to that part of town. paw paws is an awesome pet store but it's a bit far south.

I wonder if they will actually fix the escalators... Every time I go there to see a movie it seems like one or two of them are closed... It's been that way for a few years now.
