This is my understanding of these.

1. 2nd East between first and second south. - Liberty Crest - Rental
2. The new ones going in the Central 9th District - There are several, but I believe the majority are Rental, the most recently proposed. on the "Utah's Own" site are owned
3. The nice ones being built near the old SL Hardware building. - 4th West apartments - The ones currently being built to the north are rental
4. The ones on the west side of Pioneer Park. - 341 - Owned
5 The ones to the east of West Gate & also those proposed on the Greed Orthodox parking lot. - Paragon Station, currently under construction, Owned. Proposed ones, not sure

Planning Commission approved the Jefferson Walkway project. I would totally buy one of those houses, small but the proximity to TRAX and the growing neighborhood. Central Ninth is quick become one of our coolest neighborhoods.

I love that project. I like that the city is encouraging the blocks to be broken up for access by neighboring streets, particularly adjacent to the Trax station. It makes access from Jefferson St to Trax so much more convenient. I hope that the city or a developer can do the same thing west, to Washington St.

I agree, one of those houses would be really cool to live in, and I also agree that Central 9th is becoming a really cool neighborhood.

Several homes on Jefferson have been bought up recently by developers so we'll see more coming soon.

I agree with you Isaac, and also Future Mayor. Very impressed with the transformation that is going on in and around Central Ninth. This particular project is so tastefully cool. Definitely gives Salt Lake City another little outside the box edge to point to.

Some minor CCH news...

We should know who the chosen developer is by March 1. All 3 teams are going through interviews regarding their RFP's.

There is a chance the announcement will happen in mid February (3 weeks out).

I don't have any further information regarding the interviews and questions that are asked. If possible, maybe HandsomeJohn would be able to provide more information about the questions after their interview.

Liberty Wellsian is right, to not purchase would have been stupid. Why pay Millions more later. Although you could speculate, it makes much more sense that the decision to purchase the land was independent of the CCH selection process and the timing just worked out that way. We don't know anything about the purchase that isn't already public.

All of the proposers had to list their preferential order of build locations, We preferred the south to the north, but the north was our second choice. Outside of what the AP published we don't know the order of preference for the other developers.

The CCH selection process involves 12 members of the state Legislature (this is making scheduling anything CCH related difficult) along with county officials (We don't know yet if any city officials are on the committee). We haven't gone in for interviews yet, I'll share what I can after we do.

Speaking of townhomes, a 30-unit condo/townhome project was approved this week in the Marmalade. These units will be a huge boost to that section of the city.

This is a development I have been working on with the developer for a long time. I am so glad it is finally public. I hope you guys like it.

I really like the rooftop patios on each of the townhome units.

I am really glad that we are seeing more missing middle projects to complement the many multifamily developments underway. As someone who lived in Philly for nearly 7 years, I am partial to rowhomes/townhomes.

Interesting, Thanks for posting it Orlando. Given that this Hotel will have 660 rooms, it gives us a good visual feel for the height of that particular L massing design. Now, take the Salt Lake City CCH, with it's 1000-1200 rooms, it could be quite attractive. If the extra height on that main tower were stepped back every so many feet, continuing with some angular design flair, we'd be getting rid of that stubby looking wall and have quite a sexy tower.

I would want the additional height added onto the top of the main tower to begin by stepping it back about 25%. That would make for another attractive deck. Again, the extra height would get rid of the stubby, too broad and awkward look. Also, there would have to be a tapering/narrowing of the circumference as it rises to the top. Otherwise, we'll have a taller, but still just another cereal box standing on end.
Ugh, that Marriott across the street would be a nightmare in Downtown SLC. Glad we're not dealing with that type of massing, on that large of a scale.

I agree Isaac. In the 60's-70's Central L.A. went through a similar type multifamily housing boom like we're seeing in Central Salt Lake. Aside from the fact that hundred's of beautiful historic homes were bulldozed, there was never an accounting for massing variations, like we're seeing with these type of townhome projects. Also, like we see with the stylish medium sized Garbett, Hardware or Broadway Park Lofts. L.A. just put out one Eastside Apt.(actually worse than) type development after another throughout the once charming neighborhoods. Sure, it added more density, but entire sections of L.A. were made far less desirable.

Love the rooftop decks on the Marmalade town homes. I would be happy with a CCH that had Louisville-like styling with more height. Heard that the Hardware Station project is just about through planning with probably no zoning variances/conditional uses so shouldn't have to go to Planning Commission. Its sibling, the 4th West apartments also conformed to the zoning so sailed through, at least to building services.

Anybody know the status of The Regent Hotel and Void Center? We haven't heard from either one of them for a while. I certainly hope the Regent Hotel is a for sure thing. And, it would be great if the Void center went forward too.

NO. No, it wouldn't. At least not in its most recent design.

Interesting, I stayed at the Marriot right across the street from where the CCH in Louisville will be built just a couple weeks ago. I wish I would have known about that proposal, I would have checked it out while I was there.

Very much agree Old&New. That would be a dream come true in my book, to see that façade restored. Not only is it my dream to see it restored, but it is my ambition to someday be able to recreate some of the lost historic gems of the past. Sprinkle them throughout downtown, or perhaps place them side by side on a specific Pierpont Style Street. Buildings like the Templeton, Dooley, etc. The mix of contemporary alongside historic style makes for a much more attractive Downtown. An outstanding example of a very successful mix would be with 222 Main and the old Continental Bank Building.
