I like the proposed redevelopment of that building in the 9th and 9th neighborhood. I think it's a huge improvement over the existing building. I do wonder if some of the neighborhood C.A.V.E. people will come out and object the the variances, simply based on the fact that it a change.
As for JLJL, while I too have a few doubts, I am also a bit optimistic about the possibilities too. Just because John Lund doesn't have a lick of development experience, doesn't mean that he hasn't compiled a team that has a wealth of experience.
Back in 2009 I submitted an initial RFP for the RDA State Street Project, sure I was only one of three, and they were moving on to the next step with three candidates. While I obviously have brilliant idea
when it comes to development, I had never done a development project, however I had partnered with one very experienced developer based in Cleveland, it was the LLC that I had formed that was the name on the project, but all other the experience and expertise would have been through my Cleveland based partner. I don't know JLJL's financial commitment to the project, but mine at the time was that I would have also had to have arranged for a few more financial partners to ultimately pull off the State Street project. Not having my own deep pockets, not having the financial partners I needed and being in the midst of planning a wedding I ultimately withdrew my bid.
So just because Mr Lund doesn't have the experience we want, doesn't necessarily mean that JLJL as an organization doesn't. The selection process by the County regarding the CCH, was much more in depth than the first RFP round that I was involved in, and I expect that the County looked into the partners that JLJL has lined up, before choosing them as a finalist.
