I'm pretty sure there are design elements of the Dallas Stadium are incorporated into the Regina Stadium. Obviously on a smaller scale of course.

HKS is one of the main stadium designers in the world. They've done many, many fields.

Since LED lights have an extremely long burn life and cost very little to utilize, I wonder if management will keep them on at night --- even though there may not be activity at this facility. That would make the skyline look spectacular!

Which is why it's so depressing what they've provided...

I'm actually extremely happy, well adjusted and not miserable at all. I'm simply critical. I'm sorry that I don't fawn over every piece of development in the city.

The stadium, as provided, is objectively ugly. At $300M Regina should have gotten a good stadium design, instead, we cladded the damn building the same as the Fieldhouse. That is, the literal cheapest cladding available. For an extra 3% of the stadium price we could have vastly improve the design. There's nothing to be proud of.

I mean go look at the AT&T Stadium, University of Texas at Arlington, Estadio TSM Corona, or U.S. Bank Stadium, all HSK designs and all interesting.

Even if you take recent Canadian designs Mosaic is a disgrace. See: Investors Group Field or the beautiful renovations to TD Place Stadium.

Go talk to the archtects of the original stadium design and see what they think of the current design. There is no excuse for what they've done to the exterior.

I wouldn't put too much stock in who the specific architect is. I mean, just because Volkswagen Group sells Bentleys and Lambos doesn't mean that's what you're getting when you plunk down the $ for a VW Golf.

Completely disagree. Funny you only take into account the zig zag portion of the cladding (which I do think looks good & that much of IGF is cladded with similar material) & fail to mention the significant amount of Tyndall stone throughout, mesh metal cladding that will look spectacular as well as the significant amount of glass wall on the east, west, & north portions of the stadium.

Miserable people dwell on their perceived negatives & refuse to acknowledge the positives, to each their own.

Mark Williams designed the new Mosaic, Cowboys Stadium, new Vikings stadium, & is currently designing the new Los Angeles stadium. The pricetags & scopes of projects are different but the knowledge, creativity, technologies, methodology, & expertise are exactly the same. I believe Williams said that pound for pound he'd put the new Mosaic up against any of HIS NFL stadium designs.

The cladding is bad. No, not bad, an affront to humanity. The rough-hewn Tyndall is bad. And the roofing material is inferior.

The only reason the stadium isn't a complete failure is that Pattern had a superior design basic layout and planning which HKS had to work with. The quality between the two projects isn't even close.

Responding to specific criticisms with ad hominem attacks is not how to win an argument, Migs.

Who's trying to win an argument, the posts speak for themselves.

In fairness to all parties involved, there is no way to win an argument on an internet discussion board so all tactics are equally effective.

I actually agree with BD to a point here (wait, what?!?!?!). The cladding DOES seem cheap to me, being corrugated metal, much like the quonsets on farms around Saskatchewan. Was it a purposeful material choice to pay homage to those (iconic? ubiquitous?) buildings, or simply the least expensive option? Either way, I do think it looks cheap.

Having said that, I love the tyndal stone, and the overall design, finishing notwithstanding, is excellent.

How about people wait until the project is finished before they crap all over it?

Being critical of the siding does not mean people are crapping all over it. I also think something nicer could have been done, but overall I am okay with the design. I mean, I am also against it being built in the first place using public funds.

For what it's worth, NMS looks great on the inside... I don't think it matters quite as much what it looks like on the outside. The project team spent the money in the right places.

NMS is also in good company... other than the money pit Big O, pretty well every Canadian arena and stadium is at best a solid "meh" when it comes to exterior appearance, with the new rinks in Quebec and Edmonton maybe even qualifying for "pretty good".

I've been staunchly against this stadium ever since they abandoned the design with the roof version at the railyard location... at least for the size of the investment they would have gotten something that would be useful every day throughout the year.

But considering Fiacco and Fougere plowed ahead with one anyway, with open roof and at this location, I have to say I am completely impressed and amazed by the building itself. While it is yet to be completed, I believe it will blow IG stadium out of the water, and will easily be the best stadium in the CFL, arguably more suited to CFL than BC Place even.

I agree. BC place looks cool on the outside when it is lit up at night, but inside it is really ho hum, especially on TV.
