Whatever. I will be the first to admit I'm not 100% right about everything all the time and I sometimes comment on things not realizing that there are details about them that I am unaware of (Rumsfeldian unknowns and all that).

Obviously some people value my perspective more than others, I will focus on those people from now on. It appears to me that some people here have some kind of personal distaste for me and that has kind of poisoned the dialogue here. Let's move on, shall we?

If everyone could just have a shred more respect for one another though, that would be great.

I've voted NDP a couple of times (as well as for multiple other parties). I agree, the people you are talking about annoy the hell out of me and don't seem to understand that the industrial revolution is over. The word "solidarity" makes me cringe now. It is important for people to be able to disagree on things.

It's a bit harder to pinpoint what a "die-hard Liberal" would be like, but "die-hard NDP" can be just as insufferable as "die-hard Conservatives".

I'd say the vast majority values your perspective very much.

I don't think there's any "personal distaste" for you - it's just textbook "eating their young." If it's not you, it's some other enthusiastic, positive young person that becomes the prey. Try to ignore it (easier said than done, I know.)

This is probably a very popular part of town; close to two universities, Victoria General hospital, and it is in the beautiful south-end. So I imagine that once it is built, units will rent quickly.

Is it just me or does it not, look like the side on view of a cruise ship minus the hull?

After living in the area for a couple years now my guess would be in the $1100 to $1400 a month range for a 1 bedroom.

PS: Haven't forgotten about your reply. I'm just working against a work deadline, will come back. I appreciate your input. Keith and I have clashed in the past, and I appreciate his posting here as well.

I don't agree with the personal attacks on this forum either. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, whether or not all agree. It is a free society. If everyone thought the same way, life would be pretty mundane. I don't like reading the constant bickering here. Let's please stick to what brings us all to this site. A little discussion now and then is a good thing after all, but please keep it civil, so we can enjoy our forum.

I'm splitting a 2br right now (near the bottom of Queen St) and the total rent is $850+elec. It's not in a new building (by any means), and it's not a very big apartment, but $1400 for 1br seems really high.

I think this development will also help bring some life to this end of South Park, which other than the Lord Nelson, is often a bit dead. I bet it will be a godsend to the cafes and little businesses along the street, likely creating a whole new nice block.

Southwest are first rate developers. I'm excited for this one.

Did not realize Southwest were behind this one as well. Lots on their plate these days.

Edit: it seems to be lead by Dino capital, not Southwest, unless I'm missing something here. Dare I ask for a source on that one?

Actually, I goofed. I thought I was still in the "Halifax Updates" thread, where Southwest's YMCA development was challenged in a CBC story. Yeah, this isn't Southwest. My above post applies to the new YMCA proposal, not this.

Most new builds in the area are in that range already. I currently pay $1000 for a one bedroom on South Park and the building is 30 + years old.

I'm still on the fence about this proposal. The height seems excessive for a side street but the design has definitely improved over the last year.

Today's Coast has an ad for this project. There was a small map as well, which appeared to place it at the corner of Inglis and Wellington. It looks like it'd take up two or three of the lots currently occupied by some fairly unimpressive single-family houses (one of which has a "sold" sign out front right now). It also said "coming this June," which is obviously impossible, but it otherwise looks legit.

Looks like the Wellington Street project that went though years of battles. Maybe the developer sold it once it was approved?
