Interesting you mention the North terminal. On November 30, 2016; LGW gate and terminal allocations will significantly change. The North Terminal will become the only terminal for Easyjet, with BA and Virgin Atlantic Swapping terminals. EK has to stay in North terminal as there is only one A380 stand for the airport. This will mean WS will have to either move with BA to the South Terminal or stay in North with EK.

The other interesting point is that with today's LGW winter announcement; WS has fully committed their 763 fleet for both the winter and summer schedules. This means no further 763 expansion for Hawaii will occur.

Yup unless they decide to buy a few more frames to expand their route or pull off any existing London runs that aren't performing.
I too will be one of the lucky ones to be on it in June as i make my way to Denmark for almost a month, we'll see how it goes as I expect LGW to provide some ample time and connection opportunities. If EK has even a good sale to DXB from London I may even hop a quick weekend trip just to try out the A380 Super.

WS doesn't need more 767 frames, they are probably already working up that 787 order...

The 787 is far too big and expensive for WS.

With WS, the 788 will easily have 290+ seats unless they kill CASM by going 8 across where everyone else goes 9. The 788 would also expand their Premium Economy seating to atleast 35 seats and they would still have a small extra legroom section to fill up the remaining space between L1 and L2 doors.

Here is another hint as to the similarities for the 767 and 788. AC is only getting a 3-5% fuel burn efficiency per trip. The 787 impact comes from it being a much larger airplane. However the larger airplane only works out if the additional seats can be sold. This would be a major problem for the Hawaii operation, its doubtful WS could sell the additional capacity from transitioning to the 788.

The AC HQ rumor mill has the airline contemplating keeping the up to 12 763s at mainline for nonhub flying. The mainline 763 might even get a Premium Economy cabin. The 333s are the swing aircraft and will parked or transitioned to Rouge if the economy turns for the worse. The 333 is currently slated for Premium Economy conversion in late 2016, but this could be moved to 763 PE configuration.

Expensive as AC and the rest of the launch Dreamliner crowd is getting their aircraft at $30-$60 million USD discount. Any WS order will not have the same discounts as AC.

It also means no Caribbean or Latin America expansion in the works any time soon either. The other oddball item is the one weekly 767 flight they had announced between YYZ and Jamaica. Not sure how that might fit into the rotation now with the new year round LGW service.

Couple of other possibilities come to mind.

(A) YYZ-Jamaica gets downgraded to 737.
(B) AB-Hawaii frequencies gets reduced. I could see reductions to YYC-HNL as being likely target due to high US Dollar.

Or WS acquires more 767s

Is this real? And if so, why did they copy the colours of Ukraine Airlines?

That cant be right, can it ? Maybe because they are using the 788 on short to medium haul routes a bit too much. I can see how on YYZ-YVR, the trip fuel might be similar between the two planes, but on long hops, that figure can't be right.

ANA in 2012 was the first to reveal that its B788's were producing around 21% lower fuel burn on international flights compared to the B763ER.

AC should be getting similar figures, especially on its longer runs, such as YYZ-TLV.

Check out this recent AC investor presentation, page 16 has the relevant quote:
http://www.aircanada.com/en/about/media/presentations/documents/credit_suisse_151202.pdf

Quote:
on average, YYZ-TLV on a B787 can accommodate 31% more passengers, 352% more cargo, all using 3% less fuel than B767 operation.
This is not the first time Boeing has taken fuel efficiency gains and produced a larger airplane with same fuel consumption. The B757 was supposed to replace the b727 with larger passenger capacity for same fuel consumption. However airlines outside USA found the 757 too much airplane and started replacing 727 with A320. This spured Boeing to improve the 737 into Next Generation model to compete with Airbus narrow body.

What gets me in that quote is the 352% more cargo. Uh, er, say whaaaaa.....? In fuel burn, if it's 21% lower per seat, then it's probably close to the 3-5% for the airplane.

WestJet's 767-300 C-GOGN will operate the first YYC-OGG flight this morning on their own metal. I'm not counting yesterdays flight that left here after diverting from YEG-OGG.

Question: I looked at the last few flights for C-GOGN when it was doing Calgary-Toronto. For a non avgeek like me, why do they fly north of the border when going YYZ-YYC but cut across the northern states when going YYC-YYZ? Distance seems to be roughly the same according to Flightaware (about 50 km difference in actual flight distance).

A dispatcher can probably shed more light, but a few factors that can come into play on the routing:

-Air Traffic Control restrictions/changes/routings due to staffing
-Upper level winds (prefer a push to a headwind)
-Air Traffic Control costs (USA versus Canada)
-Alternate airports for diversions if necessary (weather could dictate these too)
-Minimizing fuel needed (less weight=more efficient)

This past week and weekend has been a very busy time for diversions at both YYC and YEG. Interesting assortment of heavy metal gracing our tarmacs. Still waiting for that elusive Super metal.

Also have not heard anything else about the other startup airlines and we all know there can only be one and even that can be a stretch too. Competition is good but too much and somebody will throw in the towel.

I also can't wait until Terminal pax trials begin later this year hopefully for the new concourse. That is going to be a blast into the future.

Prevailing winds or jet streams?

Didn't know that WestJet still had any older B737 jets. I thought they only had from B737 - 600 & up - yeah/no???
