Airline to fly more guests today than at any time in its history

CALGARY, Jan. 3, 2016 /CNW/ - WestJet announced today it expects to fly 74,247 guests across its network today, setting a new single-day record. The airline's previous single-day record was 72,240 guests, set on July 31, 2015, the civic holiday long weekend.

"As the busy holiday travel season winds down, we thank our guests for their loyalty and support," said Bob Cummings, WestJet Executive Vice-President, Commercial. "We also thank our more than 11,000 WestJetters for their hard work, dedication and caring service as we all work together to get our guests home safely."

WestJet also marked another milestone this holiday season, flying its 20 millionth guest in a single year on December 27, 2015.

As a side note the 3rd WS 767 is expected mid to late January, ETOPS will likely be approved so I expect WS to take over the Hawaii flying next week.

Another interesting rumour out there is that WS may not even be paying for the wet lease. The rumour strongly hinted to Boeing Capital Corporation (with whom WS bought their 767's from) is picking up the tab.

An Omni 762 is flying YYC-HNL and YYC-OGG, while an Omni 763 is doing only OGG but from YEG as well as YYC.

The exact date that the WS 763's take over both OGG and HNL isn't firm.

I'm hearing January 10th for Hawaii service to start. Some crews will position to over there via Omni to operate the return flight. Sounds like ETOPS was signed off in late December.

YUL is ahead of YYC with 135K margin as of Nov 2015. So no chance of retaining #3 position - isn't it?

well apparently WestJet had a pretty good season, and last December YYC was ahead of YUL by about 100k, so... it's going to be tough but we'll see?

Probably not and with YUL's growth continuing, and it should keep growing in 2016, looks like it will stay that way for a while.

I know Westjet has a flood of new flights for YYC coming online so will wait and see if the decline can at least turn around. Might be bad timing for adding a lot of additional seats.

Excellent- just bought direct return flights to the land of OGG on Westjet in March. Look forward to assessing the new product!

From YYC, the Westjet winter schedules will have:

95 weekly transborder flights (up from 87 last winter) IAH and FLL
new destinations.

46 weekly sun destination flights per week (up from 36 last winter) HUX
and LIR new destinations.

There will be approximately 659 weekly domestic departures (445 mainline, 214 Encore)
Last winter there were ~ 564 weekly flights (418 mainline, 146 Encore)

The following cities are seeing at least one additional flight per day:

YBR, YEG (up 3 per day), YMM, YQU (mainline is back), YLW, YYF, YXE, YXT (new this winter), YYZ and YZF (now year-round).

Good news indeed! It looks like WS operates from North Terminal at LGW which is same as EK. If you have 2 separate tickets from WS and EK, will they interline baggages to final destination? That will be a new option for folks flying to Asia. EK has 3 daily flight to LGW from DXB.
