relax, it was just a (silly) joke.

on the other hand, I never cared much for the Hollywood sign. Seen it from afar and up close. Of course it is iconic.

I say keep a sign like that in Nathan Phillips Square. I absolutely love it and if it becomes as silly and cliched over time as some think it will, it can be taken down.

Exactly. I love it, colourful and dynamic, we need more of these throughout the city...swagger swagger..

The sign is going to be staying permanently in the square! It has already been transformed for Nuit Blanche, Blue Jays, and for other events/causes. It has become very popular with tourists and locals, you'll always see people interacting with it and taking selfies. Also has an awesome reflection on the water/ice!

There is also talk to create a "The 6" sign and some others around the city. I think its a good thing.

Much wider view of a previously posted shot. Now includes the East Village and Kensington...

Just the fact that you don't even realize that most City Hall's are not just office buildings but also centres of cultural vitality, political rallies, intellectual centres, arts and festivals and other things that attract the citizens. They are public buildings and should be built and designed with public interaction in mind.

Vancouver's City Hall is a great piece of architecture and one of my favorites in the city but unfortunately is about as sterile, unfriendly, and alienating as a suburban office building. It has no social attachment to the city at all and if the city was to move to new digs, no one in Vancouver would even notice.

^Great view from the complex Desjardins. But man, is the SNC-Lavalin building ugly! Same goes for the former Air Canada building across the street. But wait, the Altitude is pretty shitty too. RIP architects building.

This part of downtown is so much better than it used to be. Even the lower part of Bishop and Crescent are light years better with those mediocre 10 storey buildings.
Can't wait to see the Holiday Inn, YUL, and L'Avenue appear from this angle.

Love this shot, and I love how Devon Tower (formerly Canterra) has stood the test of time, still one of my favourite buildings in Calgary.
