am hopeful for the NW corner of Broad and Washington

rumors of a Toll development that incorporate the shed along Caprenter seem to flourish these days

speaking of - that whole strip on the west side of Broad to Fitz needs some redevelopment lots o drive thrus and gas stations

Just really hating on the black/dark gray facade. Maybe that's an artifact of the poor render, but I doubt it is. Other than that it's great, but that aspect I just can't get past.

New Jersey tech company Linode buys Corn Exchange National Bank Building at 249 Arch
They will open a secondary office here but eventually relocate their headquarters here.

Quote:
Christopher Aker will tell you Linode, founded in 2003, was the "Cloud before the Cloud was the Cloud," beating the likes of Amazon and Google to a market that's still growing today.

Now Aker's company, which was completely bootstrapped, will establish a headquarters in Philadelphia's Old City neighborhood at 249 Arch St. The Cloud hosting provider launched in Galloway, N.J., but had been temporarily operating from Kings Hall, a Haddonfield coworking space.

Aker plans to hire 50-70 hands over the next couple of years to work in the new Philadelphia office.

It's a 15,000-square-foot, three-story space last owned by convicted felon Michael Yaron. Aker said he tried to buy it from Yaron last year, but ultimately the building foreclosed, and he struck a deal with the subsequent owner Bancorp a few months ago.

Many of Aker's new hires will surely be millennials, and he also expects to bring many of his 85 employees currently working out of the Haddonfield co-working space to Philadelphia. He said the Old City location made perfect sense, as running a tech company from the Jersey Shore – where Linode got its start – was a challenge.

Our tech scene is real. Many little changes make a big difference. And, CITC hasn't even come online yet.

The team I work with was part of this transaction. Linode also purchased the lot across 3rd street.

1911 Walnut | Renderings via Solomon Cordwell Buenz
The developer of the last vacant lot on Rittenhouse Square has released the preliminary plans for their much-talked-about project, 1911 Walnut.

Southern Land Company says the project will include a 47- to 51-story residential tower consisting of approximately 342 luxury apartments and 64-75 condominiums, 55,000-square-feet of retail on Walnut, Sansom and 20th streets, and underground parking. According to the press release, the retail will span three floors and "[residents] will enjoy resort-style amenities at the 4th and 34th floors."

The tower is set to be designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, whose work include the Murano on Market Street and a slew of handsome buildings in Chicago.

Renderings of the highly-anticipated project were leaked in late November, and showed a 51-story tower that rose to 600-feet above Rittenhouse Square. A representative of Southern Land Company told Property that the designs were real, but also outdated and they would release "the latest and greatest within the next two weeks."

Is it time for a tower in Philadelphia?

http://www.chestnuthilllocal.com/2015/12/09/is-it-time-for-a-tower-in-philadelphia/

The Centennial Tower, 1,000 feet high, was proposed to commemorate the 100th birthday of the United States. The Tower was to be erected in Fairmount Park in 1876 on the grounds of the Centennial Exposition, replete with never-before-built monorails. Centennial Tower was promoted as the tallest structure ever built by man...
I thought this was pretty cool. I never knew about this. Maybe something for the Tricentennial? ...if I live that long.

A thought...City Hall will no longer be in the top 10 tallest buildings

Once Comcast Innovation and Technology Center tops City Hall, it will no longer be in the top 10 tallest buildings in the city. It was in 1987 that One Liberty Place surpassed City Hall as the tallest building in the city, and now, 28 years later, City Hall will fall out of the top ten.

With the buildings under construction and proposed:

1. Comcast Innovation and Technology Center - 1,121'
2. Comcast Center - 975'
3. One Liberty Place - 945'
4. Two Liberty Place - 848'
5. BNY Mellon Center - 792'
6. Three Logan Square - 739'
7. FMC Tower at Cira Centre South - 736'
8. Independence Blue Cross Tower - 625'
9. W Hotel & Element by Westin - 582'
10. One Commerce Square - 565'
11. Two Commerce Square - 565'
12. City Hall - 548'

Proposed taller than City Hall:

1. Cira II - 725'
2. 1911 Walnut - 600'
3. SLS International - 590'

Let's hope some of these proposed buildings get off the ground to send City Hall out of the top 15 tallest in the city. Also, if Cira II and 1911 Walnut get off the ground, that would make the top 10 tallest buildings in the city over 600 feet tall.

Nordstrom Tower Boosts Its Roof Height to Become the Tallest Building in the Western Hemisphere

Nordstrom Tower Boosts Its Roof Height to Become the Tallest Building in the Western Hemisphere

Here’s the latest update for the new tallest-building contender in the US: Nordstrom Tower, the superskinny supertall under construction in Midtown Manhattan, apparently no longer aspires to have the tallest spire in the US. But it just increased its roof height, meaning it will now tower above the current-tallest roof on the Willis Tower.

According to New York Yimby, the newest plans for the Nordstrom Tower reveal a roof height of 1,550 feet which will easily make it the tallest roof in the Western Hemisphere. That’s about 25 feet higher than reports earlier this summer and it means that the Nordstrom Tower will for sure definitely no question be the tallest. The roof height of the Willis (RIP Sears) Tower is 1,450 feet.

Wow that art deco skyscraper was a bit much to say the least . BUT , after reading this article about Nordstrom blowing
the roof off and climbing to new heights , I wondered why CITC had a roof height some 63 feet lower than the Comcast
Center ??

No degree in math required here . Punch the roof line up to 1000 feet and the antenna , finger thingy could hit 1210 feet .
What's wrong with that ...... seeing how they will probably never build anything substantial in Philly again .

.............. PS; If I remember correctly , the canceled " City Center Tower " had a finished roof height of 1050 ft. So at the
risk of being unreasonable , I don't think wishing for a 1000 ft.roof height for CITC is being unreasonable ....... is it ??

Imo you're not being unreasonable, outta here. If the demand for more space is present then add the floors *shrug*, thus causing the obvious. Bringing the roof height to at least 1000.

Huh? Do you mean Comcast or anyone in general? I don't think it's unreasonable to ask CITC to reach 1000 feet in roof height, but I do think it's unreasonable to think they will never build anything substantial in Philly again. That's crazy thinking! We'll definitely see another Supertall by 2025, and I don't think that's unrealistic to think at all.

Just tell yourself the roof height is 1000 feet. It'll save you a lot of aggravation and you'll never be able to tall the difference anyway.
