Classic Bowling is coming down... Any word on if the iconic pin sign is going to stay? I hope so. It needs to painted and restored.

The Developers said that the sign will be staying. I would imagine they will use it either as an identifier for their development or as a neighborhood identifier, maybe both.

I still think SoSaLa on at least one side of the sign would be cool.

I was on my way home last night and had completely forgotten about the Bonneville Apartments on 500 E. They are fully under construction now. So glad to see more residents and more infill in East Downtown.

It seems like when I was little it use to say "bowling" on one side and "skating" on the other... The also use to have a water slide and miniature golf in the front.

I couldn't help but to snap one last shot of "THE ASS FACTORY" yesterday. I'm glad I did because it's gone today... I should have went and taken the sign.

Nice. It's great that the commuter stop is right there. I hope they tie in well to the existing Hardware building's architecture.

I like the LaSalle Group, as least the bit I know about them. They seem to be land owner/developers with a vision. Third and Third 3rd Uncommons could have easily been torn down and something taller newer and more of a money maker could have been built there. LaSalle unlike what his Paskillos (sp) can't see the vision behind restoring something that is old and ads historic character to the city.

I really hope that LaSalle and the City can agree on a development proposal in the next year so that they can then move forward with restoring the Utah/Pantages and building Pantages Place.

A residential tower will be great on that block as well.

Wondering the same thing. I was there because of first agenda item and figured I'd stick around for the D4 height hearing. It was frigging exhausting so I wussed out and went to Canellas for a stiff drink.

I know everyone is about saving the old. I get it....but the yard stick building...if not renovated....would be a great spot for a 20 floor residential tower with a four to five floor parking as a base.It's practically a giant empty pool back there right now

I agree, but picture this instead. Renovate the facade, and remodel the existing structure with some residential units and add a tower onto the back part. It's the best of both world. Saving and restoring old street frontage while adding some much needed density at the same time. That back section, if you took the portion to the east as well measures about 105 x 140, that's a nice floor plate of 14,700 sf. In comparison, the wide face (east) of American Towers is 104' and the south and north faces are 160'.

Unfortunately the Yard Stick is another ass hat land banker. I reached out to them back in 2007 and they had zero interest of even talking about selling. Maybe the value or pressure from the city is finally getting to the point that land bankers are starting to budge a bit. After all, I'm sure the majority of us never thought we'd see Eat-a-Burger come down this year.
