Oh please. That's insane. This isn't a far-flug Navy facility. It's not a railyard. This is in the heart of the city with serious development flanking it in every direction. Let the bloody market build here with the already generous tax benefits available for new development. Putting a KOZ here is indefensible.

Walked by the town home development on Front street in Old City. Noticed they are using several yellow pieces of foam between each home. When did they start using this crap material. I thought the fire code was at least fireproof Sheetrock or something. Anyone with expertise on this issue?

I used to spend about a quarter of my time in Philly for work, usually staying in Chestnut Hill, but haven't been there since July. Any updates on this development (the condos/Fresh Market) on Germantown?

Pretty far along. Not sure when it's expected to be done, but I'd be surprised if it were much beyond the first half of 2016.

It's well under construction by now. Saw a construction update on it somewhere but don't remember where.

Looks like they're asking $875K to $2.5 mill for the units. Can't really find much more on it.

Awesome pic there summers. Wow! The battleship in Camden is so prominent in that picture. Is that City Line Ave in the back right part of the frame?

Is that picture from a drone, helicopter or plane?

Thanks for posting it.

1700 Market retail addition
Facing 17th, in place of the plaza. Looks like this is finally moving forward.

Quote:
This month, the owners of 1700 Market will break ground on what could be a better model, a three-story food hall that will house three restaurants (Three Forks steak house, Cantina Laredo, and a yet-to-be-determined fast-casual chain). More improvements are coming to 1635 and 1835 Market.

I know that this article is from August, and I don't know if it has ever been posted here, but here is an article that goes in-depth about the Philly area's unused rail lines:

http://www.philly.com/philly/news/Tracks_from_railroads_past_seen_as_path_to_future.html

In my opinion, forget the King of Prussia NHSL extension. If any suburban rail extensions are to occur, the Media/Elwyn Line needs to be extended to West Chester; the Lansdale/Doylestown Line needs to be extended back to Bethlehem; the Manayunk/Norristown Line needs to be extended to at least Pottstown, and; the Fox Chase Line needs to be extended to Newtown. PennDOT should build these lines out if SEPTA can't make the investment since transit investments will benefit the PA as a whole. Fuck what the NIMBYs may say!

I think the Norritown line extended to KOP with better headways would be far superior a two seat ride is show stopper IMHO. Make the Norristown line HR and trunk it into the BSL to run to Walnut

The NHSL doesn't connect with the BSL, and it isn't compatible with the line it does connect to, the MFL (different gauges).

Optimally, one would extend the Norristown line to Pottstown and have the NHSL extension end in a connection with it.

Historically the West Trenton Line was part of SEPTA's network till the mid-80s. It was discontinued largely because of light traffic on the the lengthy, circuitous run. Reclaiming the 202 median for a new branch to West Chester off the Main Line (the 202 alignment uses an old rail easement there) would be a better strategy for capturing West Chester traffic. (That said, the West Chester branch does have its own uses.)

I agree that rebuilding the commuter rail network to its 1980 (or, preferably 1950) extent would be the best thing to do w/r/t connectivity and opening Main Streets up for redevelopment in the region.

I meant the Norristown RR line not NHSL; extend the line to KOP and make it HR with better headways (The NHSL would already connect if the Norristown new N+HR line made a station at the NHSL line end)

Then trunk the Norristown current RR to the BSL

while at it extend the BSL to the NY and add a BSL BLVD extension (extend the MFL to the BLVD for a connection and also change the Chestnut Hill West line to HR and trunk to the BSL

The BSL has 4 tracks to Walnut as you know and the added lines could end at Walnut or one could extend. They could be timed for easy switch to the trains that do go to the NY alla NYC 7th ave and the others could skip stops

So maybe the regular BSL and the CH West goes to NY

The BLVD and KOP line stop at Walnut with only trunk stops at Say N Philly, Temple, Girard, Race, CH, and Walnut with some timed connection with the through runner or close to it

while at it have the Ridge sput sync with Patco (with shared cards could be achieved on entrance and exit for revenue) and have that removed from the BSL and into the Pennsy cut and up to Girard then accros the river back through the railyard/innovation nabe to U City (which becomes HR) and two splits one into SW philly via the 23rd street viaduct and one to the airport

oh one can dream but to me the NHSL extension is challenging with the 69th street connection and one hour ride - to me the Norristown line converted to HR would be far better with an extension to KOP (dreaming maybe a spur to Pheonixville as HR) Plus maybe just LRT in the 422 median to Pottstown or even Reading now really dreaming; but to even limerick that could be commuter park and ride line with a few TOD opps at say Oaks, Collegville, Limerick)

to me the NHSL extension will mis with the two seat ride and lack of connections

also any 422 LRT could then also extend to chesterbrook, great valley and also maybe terminate at Paoli conecting the main line, 202/422 office parks a new HR line, the NHSL

how did the WC line get there, was it trunked off the main line? if so that could be another line extension and connection

there are also TOD opps for the BLVD line that could split to the Woodhaven/95 Park and ride in one direction and the Neshaminy mall the other

lastly have NJT runthrough to 30th with only stops at Woodhaven, N Philly, and 30th post Trenton and Septa maintianing the more frequent stop route.

one other thought while in dream land (extend the patco line over to U City at a new Walnut staion and into a new innovation rout back around to the Pennsy cut as described above

In this Cesar Pelli interview he is dramatically framed by a model of Cira II (on the left) as he talks about Cira I. There are also some Cira-looking models on the right. His interview is in part 2 of 2 but both parts are worth viewing!

Videos posted by Manntech, the building maintenance company whos window washing boom is prominently featured!
