I haven't been confrontational or boosterish on here in like 6 months or more now, at least nowhere remotely close to what I used to be. Wasn't anything to do with admins, I just realized that rude people aren't worth getting worked up over. I'm on here because I love urban development, and I enjoy seeing the development of Canadian cities and showing the people on here the rapid development of Calgary and the other cities I visit. Life is tough enough without being an angry person online.

Now here's some pretty pictures...

Those two photos are incredibly uncanny, especially when you know how large of a difference there is in terms of height and number of towers (waits for Chadi to provide statistic again).

That last Montreal picture shows a good number of single family homes near the business district, but apparently that only happens in Toronto and not Montreal! *facepalm*

I don't think that's as big a deal as people make it out to be. Toronto's avenues have some really big towers, and the side-streets while not as tall are pretty active even without towers. The best "downtown" areas of Toronto are those that are pretty strictly 2-storey residential, Kensington Market and the Annex come to mind.

I love those angles of the skyline. It looks like Chicago or Manhattan.

That's Westmount though... Most of these houses are more than a hundred years old. Sort of like The Annex but bigger.

Exactly my point, those houses next to downtown Toronto are multi million dollar homes that are quite old or renovated.

It's kind of like bits of Moscow, Chicago, and Shanghai to me. More of the latter two, but something Moscow going on. (I think it's the pseudo-commie blocks surrounding the vaguely Stalinist Canada Life Building).

I stayed there once... Tranby Avenue. Very nice area.

I don't remember anyone calling out Toronto for having SFH near Downtown...

You should check out the "Canadian City/Regional Personalities and Attitudes" thread, it's just the latest in an ongoing meme on this forum.

Those are three separate cities. Montreal, Vancouver, and Calgary.
