From the render/diagram previously posted, the MB Clinic parkade is 4 storey's, the older parkade (expanding again) to the left of the MB clinic proposal, will butt up against the new parkade(as per the render/diagram) just below the 4 story level. It doesn't look like older parkade will be a complete 4 level structure....or not...

It could be just my interpretation of the MB Clinic render but it sure looks like the southwest corner has two access points for vehicles directly off Notre Dame. I assumed those would be for access to the parking garage in the new building.

This makes me so happy! I went to the collegiate for high school and it was the year after I graduated that they started all the renovations, one of which was gutting Tony's and turning it into classroom space. Which kind of sucked for students at the Collegiate and University alike because the highschoolers were forced to congregate in the University cafeterias instead and well... we all remember Im sure what high schoolers are like in their cafeterias (trust me, the collegiate wasn't any different!)

The 5,877-square-foot, two-storey building will be home to a canteen, two high school classrooms and a common room with a lecture area for presentations. "Tony's Canteen" will seat 150 and can also be turned into a conference room or reception area.

The Concordia wellness centre thing is scheduled to open in 2017, according to the sign that's been up on the site for the last year or so.

The go kart track ran until sometime around 88-90. I knew the folks who used to live on that land at the corner. Party time!

Winnipeg will be unrecognizable in 5 years.. the announcement are coming soon.. Winnipeg will be the Chicago of the north soon... center port Canada Is unique inland port because it is close to the city, yet out side of the city limits and connected directly with the airport, Which is different from most other major cities in north America.. Winnipeg is also the only city in north America that is connected to 3 major rail ways. so having the 24/7 airport, perimeter high way, and 3 major railways in the same area, along with many major trucking and air cargo companies in the same industrial area is huge advantage to any whare housing or manufacturing companies. canadas low dollars, Winnipegs low hydro and business taxes and central location are also a major strengths that are helping ot attract all these major companies.. Winnipeg will be bigger than Calgary and Edmonton in 10 years.. and suburbs outside of Winnipeg will continue to grow with the demand for hotels going up 10 fold in the next few years.. With the city attracting many more visitors in the future.

Enjoy the ride folks this huge rush to make changes and invest in infrastructure is no fluke this a big plan... and the city and government are preparing the city for its future which is looking very bright.

I wonder what will become of the bike lab at UW? I imagine it can be easily relocated because it's a converted shipping container. It looks like the new building is sitting more or less on top of the bikelab site.

Has anyone here been to London, ON? I spent just one night there, but tried to make the most of it visiting as many stores downtown as I could. The city had never been on my radar prior, other than the odd thought; I had talked with the occasional person who was from there. It does not have high end retail downtown, but quite a diverse mixture of retail that makes it rather vibrant. My immediate thoughts turned to Main Street in Winnipeg, and how unique it could be in terms of a similar mixture of retail, cafes, etc.
Princess Street from Logan to Notre Dame, too, could become so much more than it currently is. Its downtown mall is akin to Portage Place: it suffered from high retail vacancies, but has been developed into a mixture of business concerns, and it is doing very well now.

There was a sign at the Royal Albert saying rooms for rent but was not sure if it was current. However, someone was definitely moving around in the former restaurant area on the main floor

Agreed, although I guess the restaurant could make it more viable one day.

What happened to Albert St. is really quite a disgrace... what should be the best block in the Exchange is marred by two slumlords who refuse to do anything with their properties (St. Charles Hotel, Royal Albert Arms, the old warehouse with the former Vault Hair), a building with totally vacant CRUs (in the parkade), and a building that burned down and has been replaced by surface parking.

^ It's ugly, but the density it brings is good. I'd love it if more buildings like that (just maybe a bit better looking) filled the gaps on the city's arterial roads.
