I think it might be better to nag Global Television or someone in the press because I'm getting increasingly optimistic about them announcing events like this. You know, security matters and junk....or I seem to repeatedly get the short end of the stick.

Just noticed this diagram posted November 9th.
Alice was at the blue dot on Friday - 20m below the surface.
It must be closer than that now as they're working 24/7.

Heard back from the MoT today. It doesn't really sound like there is enough room for a crowd of people to watch the breakthrough happen due to the fact that it's coming out at a tunnel portal rather than an excavated underground station as with the Canada Line. They DID say, however, that they will be filming the breakthrough, so we can look forward to seeing it that way.

According to the location map posted today, I'd say there's ~90m till breakthrough. Here's hoping that will happen sometime this week.

Rest assured, it won't break thru until a press conference is called

I'm guessing they have to wait, because all that dirt and rock needs to come back up the tunnel.

I gave it a quick scan but no quote, it doesn't entirely answer my question if they have begun where the TBM started. I'd like to think that they could save time if they somehow used the tracks to remove the debris generated from the TBM.

No, right now the tunnel is curved all the way around, there is still no flat bottom.

They still need to build a rail bed and the partition wall before any tracks can be installed.

See the 2nd sentence of the 2nd paragraph in the bulletin you quoted....

"followed by construction of the concrete base and walls in the TBM reception pit and in the tunnel, followed by the installation of utilities, trackwork and power systems."
Tunnel pics showed an overhead conveyor belt to remove the spoil.

Likely to speed things up, the dismantling of the TBM will happen at both portals. ie: the conveyor belt, hydraulics, electrics and muck train rails will be dismantled out the north portal, and the main TBM machine will be dismantled out the south portal.

After SELI has removed all traces of the TBM and associated equipment - leaving just the bare tunnel concrete rings, then the precast concrete for the trackbeds and dividing walls can be installed, followed by the rails, conduits and other needed parts of the finished tracks, and safety systems.

With luck, they may be able to run the first test train through the tunnel in the late summer.

Lindsay Meredith, a Simon Fraser University marketing professor, lives a few blocks downhill from the Clarke and Seaview intersection and the huge black asphalt patch to repair the sinkhole. He blames the Evergreen Line tunnel trouble for an unwelcome change to the ravine on his property. One stream slowed to a trickle and another swelled beside it. A bank that should have been dry after the summer drought became waterlogged.

“I put in thousands of hours and wrecked my back down here, and thousands of dollars,” Meredith said. “Well, you can see what’s happened: bridges over empty chasms, fundamentally.

“I haven’t heard any 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 apologies yet. I certainly heard no promises about, ‘Yeah, we’re going to fix this for you.’ ”
Oh yeah. They're totally going to go out of their way to fix an unintended subterranean groundwater diversion just to make you happy.

Didn't Simon & Garfunkle write a song about this?
