I like exposed cranes when they are articulated like this. Hiding everything functional just makes for sterility.

Re: comments on last page...

I only ever like podiums when they are a different building typology altogether, among which the tower sits. In Toronto, they tend to be these copped-out bulky inhospitable extensions of the tower, with exactly the same scale and same kind of units as in the tower. Unfortunately Vancouver is starting to follow that trend with its latest projects.

The Scollard site has no room for a podium, so I prefer the public space. And I just passed by 1132 Bay this morning... there is no doorman, just a concierge inside.

I think I like the Century Gardens tower in Calgary.
It's not like any other tower in Calgary anyway.

The tower sits on the site of a former strip mall which has already been leveled, and the park which surrounds it is about to be completely rejuvenated after 40 or so years...

It's good to see both the awful stripmall redeveloped and the park rejuvenated. I'm not sure if it's changed now but Century Gardens was one of the sketchiest parks in downtown Calgary. The interior always seemed completely isolated and a bit unsavoury as it's basically surrounded by a concrete bunker. No idea how they ended up with that tiny stripmall on the corner either - you think it would have been expropriated when the park was originally constructed.

The design of the tower seems preliminary but I like it.

I'm with Dleung, that crane looks pretty sleek a not something we see often in highrise construction anywhere. It makes this building feel like a machine which is pretty cool. The only negative comment I have is I feel is that has so a lot going on for a relatively short tower. It's possibly a little too busy for it's size.

Who's gonna be the first window washer to get up on that crane?

Not me. Spent a summer in uni on a swing stage. That was enough for me. My fear of heights would take over now even knowing I was strapped in. Tower is much taller too.

Looks pretty good. One of those that wants to be in a beauty pageant.

I was going to say the same thing. It's like a giant crane —. Not sure how I feel about it. Also I assume it's shown with no glass to accentuate the shape of the irregular floor plates? I really hope this one doesn't end up like so many others with reflective blue glass.

Edit: in one of the more detailed images it seems to show it with window wall glass with no spandrel. I will believe that when I see it.

Looks like another tallish tower is slated for central Edmonton.

Proposed rezoning in Oliver for new apartment building

Residents are invited to a public meeting to provide feedback on the proposed rezoning of a property at 12010 Jasper Avenue NW in the Oliver neighbourhood.

Date: Thursday, December 03, 2015
Time: 7 p.m.
Location: Oliver School, 10227 118 Street NW

The proposed rezoning from a (DC1) Direct Development Control Provision to a (DC2) Site Specific Control Provision would allow for the development of a 114-metre (approx 35 storeys) apartment building with a maximum of 390 units and underground parking.

The proposed rezoning would also require updating applicable maps in the Oliver Area Redevelopment Plan (ARP).

The public meeting will be an opportunity to learn more about the proposal and provide feedback, which will be summarized in a report to city council for a final decision on the rezoning.

This image is weird because not only is the glass really unrealistic but the corner looks completely different than in the massing view. Unless the corner is straight with an interior cut in this doesn't look the same at all.

Nice! I'm confused by the random green blobs in the middle though.

Very nice CG. I like that they just ignore the 1 Yonge development that will hide it from the lake.
