Yes.

Did I laugh at his comment? No. Did I downgrade the Calgary skyline? No. I just thought his comment was disproportionate. If one said the same about Montreal's skyline, he would be the laughing stock of this forum.

This was just to demonstrate there are at least 5-6 north american skylines which are better (arguably more than that), so scrapin's comment was sort of exagerated. Plus I said it was my opinion.

I mean, should we really include Calgary with San Francisco, NYC, Chicago in the top ranks? Toronto is the only canadian city which belongs there IMO.

I personally think that Regina has one of the best skylines in North America.

Without having seen it in person, just through pictures, I would also believe Calgary's skyline to be among the best in NA. It looks very futuristic from most angles, very clean and crisp, in an advantageous setting. And it seems to be getting better and bigger faster than any other ones, except Toronto of course.

For the record, the same comment by anyone but scrapin (who's pretty close to a certified troll) would likely have passed without a problem.

And technically, you guys are right, it just depend on how long one's particular list of "best skylines" is. Since it can be arbitrarily long, any skyline can be on it.

Despite being consistently surprised by the rise of Toronto, the Vancouver skyline remains my favourite. I find it very peaceful.

I honestly didn't realize that about scrapin...

I guess you missed his quote about Montreal belonging next to Hamilton in the skyline department...

I seem to miss a lot of things for some reason. It's really quite unfortunately as this place is such a hotbed of entertainment. A real funny farm...

No kidding, and that's from the (relatively) ugly side! The view from the south is significantly better.

It's all a matter of taste though, so how are they "better"? Although SF and Philly both have distinctive and "nice" skylines, there's nothing about them that makes them objectively better than Calgary's IMO. (Philadelphia mostly reminds me of Montreal but without the mountain). I don't see in any way now you demonstrated that they were better. You just posted pictures of them and asserted that they were better.

It's like saying "blue is one of the best colours" - "no offence, but I can think of AT LEAST three other colours that are better colours than blue!"

I agree that Calgary's skyline is one of the best in North America (not "The Best" or "Definitely in the top 10"). It's big enough to fill photos, it has a cool backdrop, and the architectural details/massing reflects a totally different era/aesthetic than most NA skylines.

I also would not laugh hysterically at a claim that Monteral has one of the best skylines in North America.

I guess for some, "one of the best" means "looks the most like Manhattan".

Sure, it's a matter of opinion. I just don't believe the Calgary skyline, as good as it looks, belongs with the likes of Chicago, NYC and San Francisco for best NA skylines (to which most here can agree). Montreal and Vancouver don't either. This is not a city vs. city thing.

Probably the fact that scrapin posted that comment was what caused me to react as he is a troll. I guess if any other member had said that I would've let it pass.
