Not a fan of losing 10 Heritage buildings for a 40 Storey condo on Widmer Street. That could have been a great little side street for restaurants and bars. Instead we will get another 130m + tower in a sea of others. It doesn't help that it looks to be Cityplace quality as well.

I hope we see more of 8 Cumberland, I realize this is the backside of the building we haven't seen yet but it seems like the design may have changed a fair bit from the old render.

Poor Widmer. It's the architectural equivalent to King Street in Waterloo. As awful as this one is, it's still better than Cinema or Theatre District.

Finally something worthy of Yorkville, unlike that all that new 🞵🞵🞵🞵 along Davenport. The word refreshing comes to mind, not just because of the design and palette, but also because the massing appears to favor breathing room around it rather than maxing out density (it probably still does). It might be the one other design (other than rivercity) that I won't be embarrassed to live in, unfortunately I probably can't afford it

Like the step-down approach to the north... one of the first towers in town I can think of where the massing doesn't say "F you" to the context.

I'm confused by the SW corner... aren't those existing "heritage" buildings right at the corner? Are they moving them east to create that public space? Would have also preferred the driveway to be off of Scollard, or eliminated altogether, since there's already a separate parking entrance.

Yes - they are being moved eastwards to create the public space

I dont think avant garde contemporary buildings suit Yorkville. This one is okay but the street level looks cold and depressing. I'd prefer more ornamentation. It'd be better suited to somewhere in the entertainment district or maybe around Bay and Gerrard.

I think opulent, traditional buildings like One St Thomas or restrained designs like The Florian are better suited to Yorkville.

It does look a little sub-par but I'd argue that Yorkville designs have been pretty decent to above average over the past few years.

I'm very confused by the Yorkville stuff. Everything new is considered terrible and unworthy once a design comes out, a sign of declining standards, yet before the design comes out everything is considered a chance to finally get something good in Yorkville because nothing yet built is any good.
