Let's say all 3 levels signed a cheque today. How long do you think it would be before the first construction began?

For the contract being signed? 18 months would be optimistic.

It'll happen one way or another probably by spring. I suspect it'll be a long term allocation to debt finance the project.
Is this still the case, given that the Conservative's lost the election? Have the Liberals promised this level of funding?

“You’ll be happy to know, I hope, that the Cities Matter survey is going out to the parties ... and one of the core questions is, ‘will you honour the commitment for the Green Line funding if you’re elected?’” Nenshi told his council colleagues.

“And (Liberal leader Justin) Trudeau, last week explicitly said he would, (NDP leader Tom) Mulcair has not yet said that, I anticipate he will, so I’m feeling like we’re going to get that funding regardless of that happens in October.”

Thanks. I didn't follow the election too closely, so wasn't sure.

I believe the Liberal funding commitment was actually superior to the Conservative commitment, in that funding was similar in amount, but with less strings and more rapid roll out of the money.

From the little information I saw, I believe the Liberals were going to quadruple transit infrastructure spending over the conservative plan.

We will make the New Building Canada Fund more focused. By providing significant, separate investments in public transit, social infrastructure and green infrastructure, we will enable the New Building Canada Fund to make greater investments in Canada’s roads, bridges, transportation corridors, ports and border gateways, helping Canada’s manufacturers get their goods to market.

^Good news, this is prob the single most influential infrastructure project ever here. Lots of infill potential down centre st/edmonton trail, 16 ave, east beltline, inglewood, ramsay etc.

Have they decided how to handle the downtown to 16 ave part yet? I still think a tunnel is the best way to go, but I get the hesitation of putting a station that far underground.

I'd say axe the Crescent Heights Station and just build the 16th Ave Station between 16th and 15th, and don't daylight the line until 24th Avenue with a station at 25th.

It would be nice if this city could figure out how to do sort of "urban express" trains between 25th Avenue and Inglewood Stations. Similar to what Toronto is going to do with the underground portion of the Eglington Line. This way, many people would be able to bypass the inevitable clusterfucks that will be caused by having trains in mixed traffic.

A good chunk of our system was built on compromise. Now we're stuck with cl'ucks like 36th St NE and 7th Ave. It seems to be the way to do things here in Alberta, and frankly I hope we can get the get past that overbearing conservative mentality. I'd really like to see this line built for the next 100 years. To me that means tunnels and a deep station.
