So my the problem isn't with acknowledging that a particular characteristic is very common in one country compared to another, (let's say 20% of people in Canada do something and only 10% of people in the US or UK do it) my concerns is how easy it is for this to skew perception to the point where we "see" the behaviour in 35% of people in Canada and only 5% of people in the US or UK, simply because of our perceptions.

Clearing such things up is precisely what "discussion" is for!

Nah, discussion flows spontaneously, and if we started a "social commentary" thread it would just attract trolls (including interlopers who have no interest in skyscrapers or urban development) as those things are wont to do.

There, I've said it. I've gone there. I'm a white guy ranting about "political correctness gone mad."

Essentially: I think we're rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. Too many people are spending too much time policing speech for evidence of perceived improprieties against the thousands of aggrieved identity groups that are shouting on the Internet and social media for "justice and respect." It's solipsistic, myopic and narcissistic in light of the real economic issues that we are faced with.

Agreed. These economic issues would be better handled with broad, sweeping social policies that apply to every person regardless of their background. Someone123's example of basic income is one of these, and one I am quite supportive of.

In housing the approach of Utah (a conservative state) is to basically just put homeless people into a basic $30,000 pre-fab home straight away. I don't know the outcomes of that project, but it surely seems better than the BC (left wing) approach: pay addicted homeless people to stay in roach-infested flophouses because they have "the right to the city" and unleash an army of social and EMS workers to tend to them as they overdose in the feces-strewn alleyways in the Downtown East Side.

Anyway, here's another Canadian skyline: prewar Windsor, ON in the top-right hand corner.
