Ugh. I hate playing at those new rec centers. Soulless. Feels like your playing in a bright new factory.

it may be comfortable, it may be clean, it may have all the bells and whistles and a dressing room that can comfortably hold an entire team.....but blah.

—. Our parents were tough for putting up with all those games at freezing cold arenas parking on top of snow banks in the field next door.....something very admirable about that and I something I look forward to dealing with. I figure it is a huge part of the reason hockey families continue to watch hockey long after their kids are finished playing and differentiates itself from other sports. The level of commitment required is miles beyond other sports. You cant be soft.

But Clare Drake specifically.....that old barn is magic.

No, not quick to judge, quick to confirm that we will not be going to many Bears games soon.

Barns, Gyms should be cornerstones of main campi. Post-Secondary and especially University is about atmosphere and experiences, not taking an LRT to an abortion of a second campus. It is truly sad that the UofA has chosen to move all of that energy, excitement and atmosphere to nowhere-ville.

Once the Bears leave Drake, I will not be supporting them in their new venue.

Here's hoping that they will show it live at RATT on channel 9.

Agreed, it's a shame it'll be moving off the main campus. Why not utilize the field just to the West of Clare Drake? Or the parking lot to the East of HUB Mall? I'm sure they've got things planned for there, but would be great to keep Bears on campus.

Just a heads up - Google updated their satellite imagery of downtown and the arena roof if visible, so must be from late August (the trees are just starting to change colour).

I just wish they'd update the airport aerial.

^^ Okay, so which spot is Meridian Plaza 2 supposed to go up on? The Impark lot to the south? Or the other one to the north (on the other side of the existing Meridian Plaza)?

And from what I've heard I believe they are open to selling this to another buyer.

North. The lot to the south is owned by Canterra.

Will you be as nostalgic about Rexall Place and the new Rogers Arena? Same thing to a degree isn't it?

I was flying into Edmonton the other day and approaching from the south. In the distance I could see what I'm sure were snow-capped mountains off to the south-west, and they remained visible until we were quite low to the ground. It got me thinking--will the mountains be visible from the top of Stantec? Or perhaps you can even see them from the Pearl? If not, how high would a building have to be to give a view of the distant rockies?

Rexall was no longer suitable for our city.

Clare Drake is fine. If they want to spend coin, how about some minor renos. a new facility is just not needed.

The Stantec tower is about 250m so the horizon will be only 56.5 Kilometres away. http://www.ringbell.co.uk/info/hdist.htm
