still cant believe this was the old arena site
I went to a early miami heat game, nasty parking
Ah, yes! I remember the old arena. This is where they used to be. It was very near Overtown Metrorail station. That was long time ago where we went there before. That was in the past. Yes, I remember the old parking and it was very nasty parking lots. It's very dirty. We will never go back there.

Thanks for putting the time into the compilation post! All the projects look incredibly high class and luxurious. Good times for Miami, that's for damn sure.

Well thank you for your comment and it is much appreciated!
Apparently the rest of SSP isn't impressed at Miami having so many skyscrapers over 500+ feet under construction at one time since there haven't been any other comments so far.
It's seems like the only people who respond to any development in Miami are other forumers from the area except for a few.
It's almost like Miami doesn't even exist on this forum which is quite perplexing.
Again thank you for your comment!

I noticed that Miami is still building many buildings with no retail and setbacks, is this becoming a thing of the past or do new proposals have a more pedestrian friendly design?

Miami21 is the guide for Zoning in the city so ground retail is incorporated into all high rises as well as having no parking garages for high rises like "Centro" (400ft.| 36 stories) in the city :

Nice compilation of current projects. Certainly is a lot of condo construction, and some of the new designs are more unique than in the past. I think architects and developers finally ran out of ways to design the white concrete condo tower with balconies.

While the development in Miami remains impressive, I think many people on this forum get bored by Miami condo tower development. People on this forum by and large don't find "resort-living" mega developments in urban areas to be all that exciting... or even interesting. And when the architecture most often leaves a lot to be desired... no one really cares that Miami has X number of buildings going up that are 500+ ft tall.

In the video you can see chunks of the building fly away fast and in many pieces hitting the church and condo next to it. It was definitely very loud - like a bomb going off.

A 649 foot tower is going here. Elysee is just a few blocks South of this demo.

As for the tower crane in the back. I'm not sure what project that is. It might be 2500 Biscayne.

it's great to see miami under construction but i can see why it's not more interesting to forumers like me - they're just tall buildings. i was in miami last year and i didn't really like how i had to drive everywhere. found it very tiresome. the metromover is really cool though, in the future when every metro mover station has a large cluster of commercial activity (like the swire and AAF projects) it'll be much improved. i'm someone who doesn't like to be in a car or walk along empty streets, so of the 10 days visiting south florida, we spent 2 on key west, 6 on miami beach and only 2 in miami proper.

That's a problem really for most American cities. The idea that you have to drive everywhere. Very few American cities offer the ability to not have a car and function. I mean, in a lot of cities, there are options, but some make it easier than others is what I'm getting at. Miami is trying to improve this. Overtime it will improve. Lets just say that with the future improvements to transit, its way better than it use to be.

I really think for a lot of cities, housing is the main issue and that there should be more government efforts to build affordable housing. We can leave it to the private sector, sure, but it will not be as affordable if instead we start using federal dollars to build housing which leads to political issues on why we are wasting money on other countries or maintaining our empire abroad when we should be using it on our cities.

Could we get cities with the walk-ability of Boston or NYC or SF, sure, but affordability comes into play. People would love to live in cities, and if cheap housing is available, they will flock, but instead, go towards the suburbs where its much cheaper. Issues like crime and race relations also divide our cities from truly growing. A lot of bs in essence.

Time will tell. But... our cities are getting better. Just not at the rate most would like to see or at the magnitude of transit/housing fixes that rival other countries.

^ well, even here in sf, straight up prohibiting any allowance for parking in new buildings would increase affordability by design. there's a neighborhood in miami called wynwood where i saw a show at this underground art space. someone was telling me about the upzoning and plans for the hood (which is now light-industrial borderline dystopian) and the first thought that i had was that if you prohibited parking allowances and stuck with lightwells instead of setbacks, i bet the market would build the neighborhood out in ~5 years. why? because 4-5 stories of woodframe construction over a concrete commercial ground floor is so cheap to build that it's impossible that it wouldn't be profitable.

You can't build wood frame in Miami. Hurricane codes and all...

Exactly and the only "wood framed" houses that are allowed to be rehabilitated are homes made out of Dade County Pine which is termite proof & very sturdy under Hurricanes.
I believe Mobile Home parks have been banned in Miami since Andrew in 1992.

Uh no, not really.

You can even do it in Miami. Might not be as easy to do as in other places, but it definitely can be done.

I can't remember why they banned home mobile parks after Hurricane Andrew? I just don't understand it. But why?

That's what I said. If you bothered to quote the rest of what I said, I mentioned that there are options but its not as easy or some cities make it a little more of a inconvenience versus others. In terms of not offering, I'm referring to a majority of the population. Driving is still the way to go for most... But it is improving nationwide which is a plus. When somebody has to walk a mile or more to the nearest bus stop, that's a problem. Then you can factor in a majority of suburbs with a lack of coverage, some large enough to be considered a city by definition, and you can see the transit issue.
