Most of the houses in West Brickell are old, but aren't very great architecturally. Like the ones seen here: http://www.goldenduskphotography.com/blog/2015/9/23/miami-city-self-storage-coming-to-west-brickell
This is why it is upsetting because Edgewater does have a architectural character to it and the neighborhood is very charming & walkable. There is a lot of history there as well.

Midtown 6 Site Is In Contract, Midtown 7 Could Also Be Sold

Midtown 6 Site Is In Contract, Midtown 7 Could Also Be Sold
By TNM Staff on September 30, 2015

A large parcel in Midtown Miami where the Midtown 6 condo was once planned is in contract, and the buyer also has an option to purchase the Midtown 7 site.

An affiliate of Commingled Pension Trust Fund (Strategic Property) of JPMorgan Chase Bank signed a memorandum last week confirming the contract on the 93,140-square-foot Midtown 6 site and an option on the 80,365-square-foot Midtown 7 site.

Seller Midtown opportunities had filed condo documents in 2012 for 398 residential units and twelve commercial units on the site, to be called Six Midtown Miami. That condo declaration was terminated last week.

In May 2013, an affiliate of the same JPMorgan entity signed a contract to purchase the Midtown 5 property. The sale eventually closed in October 2014 after approvals were obtained, with construction beginning immediately led by Magellan Development Group of Chicago.

Last week, Related Group and Dezer development broke ground on the Hyde Midtown/Midtown 3 project, with 400 residential units and 60 condo/hotel units.

A rendering of Midtown that is over a decade old showing Midtown 2-7 :

Reported explosion damages Sunny Isles building, 34 injured

Quote:
More than 30 people have been injured after a possible explosion went off in a Sunny Isles Beach building.

The explosion occurred at the Chateau Beach residence, located at 174th Street and Collins Avenue just before noon Friday. "There was a explosion at the top of the building. We are on scene with Ocean Rescue, assisting them as they need us," said Sunny Isles Beach Sgt. Brian Schnell.

Officials have labeled the incident as a MCI Level 3 case, meaning more than 20 people have been injured. A total of 34 people have been injured, nine of them are in critical condition. Two of them are being treated for burns.

A firefighter on the scene has confirmed that two people are also trapped in an elevator stuck on the third floor.

7Skyforce HD hovered over the scene where a large hole could be seen in the building, caused by what some believe was an explosion. The room appears to have been a boiler room. A gas leak also sprung but that has since been capped.

Miami’s downtown building boom drawing to a close
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/real-estate-news/article39189630.html

Quote:
The last time a building boom ended in South Florida, the region's entire economy crashed, too. Now, as luxury condo sales slow and the dollar grows stronger, analysts fear the wheels of the current cycle are once again grinding to a halt.

But this time they’re predicting a soft landing, in part because developers didn’t have enough money to overbuild. And single-family homes and ultra-luxury Miami Beach condos may not even feel a bump.

The problem slowing down today’s cycle is simple: plummeting foreign currencies are hurting Latin American and European buyers. Those buyers have been driving a boom that launched in 2011 when the dollar was weak.

Project: Cambria Hotel

Quote:
A Cambria hotel is in the planning stages in Brickell.

CS Brickell Hotel, LLC has filed plans to build a 204-unit hotel at 145, 155 and 165 SW 12th St. The company is an affiliate of Choice Hotels, which owns the Cambria brand.

The company signed a utilities deal for the hotel this week.

CS Brickell paid $9.5 million for the property last year. Several multifamily buildings on the 22,500 square foot lot have been demolished to make way for the hotel.

Around the corner, an Indigo Hotel is planned by Intercontinental Hotel Group, among several other hotel projects within blocks.

Kobi Karp is the architect.

Wouldn't be Arquitectonica without at least one blank all.

Ugh! I hope that blank wall doesn't stay that way!

That's a great shot, but the sky looks photoshopped. No way that many stars would be visible with that much ambient light, right?

^ Yes it is photoshopped. You would have to go to the Everglades to see stars like that.

^ As always your drone shots of Miami are incredible! I'm sure the residents at Infinity @ Brickell behind the SLS aren't too happy having their views of the bay and Ocean being blocked now though.

Especially since when many of them bought the units, Infinity II was planned there and was oriented perpendicular to Infinity rather than parallel to preserve tower 1's views.

Construction could begin quickly, since no federal funding or studies would be required.
