Lol! No I meant the vomit bags that are in the pouch on the back of the airplane seats. Maybe considering the sheer ugliness of the Residences Soleil though the force of vomit will be pushed to projectile levels and it will blow right through the bag onto the seat in front of me.

The Clocktower's ugliness is almost amazing to behold when considering how many awful design elements they crammed into one building. It's like a Canadian icon for crappy nationwide building trends.

- Laughable Post modern top that clashes with the rest of the building
- Brown and white bricks applied in the most uninteresting way possible
- Asymmetrical colours at the top trying to make it edgy and fun
- Tall enough to just be a shitty high-rise but then turned it into a massive slab
- Built in a city without a discernible skyline so that it's grotesque slabness can be seen by all and hidden by none
- The clock looks like a giant piece of plastic

It's legendary in its hilarity. Was there no architect, developer, or project manager to just once point out that "hey, this really looks brutal and intrusive"?

^agreed. So much ugliness crammed into a single space (the Big-bang of ugliness), yet it utterly dominates the surroundings, much like the tower of Barad-dûr dominating the lands at the foot of Mt. Doom in Mordor. Except that the Laval clock tower is far, far uglier than the tower of Barad-dûr.

Harper should retire there and take his place as Sauron. Just because he can't rule the country any more doesn't mean he can't have his own personal Mordor. If the clock tower could only be moved to Fort Mac and the oilsands it would be perfect!

They are building a ton of retirement homes near me in Calgary preparing for the silver wave. Some are actually decent looking. The clock tower would never be allowed here. I don't even think it would be contemplated. The ones they're building here tend to be 5 stories and U shaped. Massive density that probably rivals the tall slab of the Residences Soleil. What evil mind conceived a Commie Block high rise with it's very own death clock counting down the days of its elderly hostages?

It looks like what they thought the future would look like in the early 90's. I doubt Residences Soleil would even have such amenities though. I picture a room of patients suffering Dementia with an inflatable pool in the centre.

Why would Résidences Soleil never be allowed in Calgary? Generally speaking, the city development approvals process doesn't take aesthetics into account unless it's a historic district with a specific look that has to be preserved. Am I not right?

Looks like the Chrysler tower mated with Laval's clocktower. And the offspring got the height of the former but the looks of the latter.

A fugly one in an area dominated by fuglies. I spent the better part of 12 years in the area around St. Mathieu/Guy and Rene-Levesque/Sherbrooke (yes, the sprawling campus of Concordia).

Let's discuss measuring ugliness in Canada.

For buildings, the floor is Laval Clocktower. They just don't get uglier.
For music, the floor is Nickelback. No sound is worse than Nickelback (which basically is equivalent to battery acid in the ears).
For politicians, the floor is Rob Ford. Nobody could repeatedly stoop so low and yet remain in their leadership capacity.
