^ That one's new to me. The mosaic patterning is an interesting attempt to dress up a rectangular box, reminiscent of the Bay lofts. But with it being so tall and skinny I think it's going to look funny on that block.

Also on the Koopman website is the condo project to (perhaps someday) be built on Queen Street where Bethany Manor once stood. I don't know that it's appeared on this forum before:

^ unfortunately, the last I heard on the Queen Street Condo was that it was on hold. Which is too bad because it would be a beautiful edition to that area.

I some involvement in budgeting for this project about 3 years ago, but it's been pretty quiet on the Tabriz front for a couple of years now. At least from my end.

I walked around our downtown this morning, and was surprised to see how many "For Lease" signs were on the buildings. I counted approximately 10 or so between the blocks of 20th St and 3rd Ave. I wonder how much of this is attributed to tenants moving into newer buildings?

A fair bit but the suburban office/business/retail expansion has really put a huge hit on downtown as well. Drive around Stonebridge sometime, it's amazing how many business, and ones you think would be downtown, like Saskatoon Co-op, charities, yoga wear stores and independent restaurants are now in that area.

Some speculation about Saskatoon real estate

Saskatoon real estate set to soar: forecast | Print | Email

Spec building may pay off, says PwC forecast

By Geoff Kirbyson

A new report predicts Saskatoon will become one of the country’s hottest real estate markets next year.
Both foreign and domestic investors are expected to invest in the city, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers Canada (PwC) and the Urban Land Institute, which released the report on real estate trends.
Just how much of an impact the softening of the oil market will have in Saskatoon remains to be seen, said Chris Potter, a Toronto-based partner at PwC Canada.
“Saskatoon is an interesting play. Everybody realizes it is resource-rich. The oil industry doesn’t end at the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. Agriculture and timber are doing well, too, demand which will help push manufacturing,” Potter said.
Saskatoon moved up from No. 8 last year to No. 4 this year, trailing only Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
Calgary and Edmonton were the top-ranked cities a year ago but they fell to No. 9 and No. 7 respectfully in this year’s report.
“As the shine has come off other cities, [investors] are looking for alternatives,” Potter said. “There have been discussions of head offices moving to Saskatoon.”
Saskatoon has also seen some building on spec for industrial and logistics in the last couple of years, he said. Home building has been doing well, too.
The report was generated by interviews and surveys with more than 1,400 real estate experts, including developers, brokers, property managers and investors.

Post to the 'Stonebridge Moms' group on Facebook says a Starbucks is being build behind the Canadian Brewhouse. Has anyone seen confirmation anywhere?

I wonder which companies are thinking of relocating head offices here? That would be huge if our downtown saw a handful of companies move in over the next few years. Any insider knowledge or hearsay out there?

There is a 2 unit building going up west of the Brewhouse - the unit farther south is a Starbucks with a drive thru, the other space is conditionly leased - no word on who that is yet.

I was just watching the City Council live stream, and the matter of Ken Achs purchasing the lane between his property at 2nd and 22nd (McDonald's site) and the Subway on 22nd came up. In his remarks, Mr. Achs stated that he has an agreement with the owners of the Subway to incorporate their site into a larger "signature" development on that corner.

The lane closure was approved. Look forward to seeing the proposal for this prominent corner.

Achs mentionned that if he was unable to acquire the adjacent lane (allowing him to also incorporate the Subway), he would have built something comparable to the building with the Starbucks in it. But he felt that this corner calls for something more substantial.
