Is the existing brown building facing Drake to be torn down as well? what would the timeline be for that? Has anything been posted anywhere.

Looks like they are just going to level it out (and make a parking lot?) for the time being.

Yes, I would assume they pay for permanent parking spaces like anybody else

Have we seen this proposal before, and has it been posted?

This is what the corner looks like right now: https://goo.gl/maps/c6hWBdTuShq

This new proposal for the corner of Gore Avenue and East Hastings is the first to emerge from the Downtown Eastside Plan under the new DEOD zoning rules that only permit rental housing – and requires 40% of the space to be used for non-market housing.

I wish there was more information on this one. Non market units = 104. A third of those have to be shelter rate, so 34 welfare rate units. A win for the DTES.

There's not much more information but I presume that the rest of the non market micro-suites will be just as profitable as the larger market rental units.

Apparently BC Hydro (I suppose) wants to remove the space frame from Cathedral Square Substation and replace it with "end caps" above each vent tower. I remember when the space frame actually had a plastic roof or membrane on it.

I had no idea those were vents. Are they linked to the Central steam system?

No, there's a massive underground hydro substation that requires venting.

The one to the west (Berkley Place) that you're referring to is actually one of the more interesting and spacious rental complexes in the West End with great layouts. It has open air hallways facing into a nice lush courtyard, and all the apartment units are 2 stories. Ive been in units on the upper level which have a kitchen and living room on the main floor when you walk in and stairs going down to bedrooms and a bathroom on the floor below (reversed from a traditional layout).

I've always been curious about the efficacy of a water feature above a hydro substation...

More likely one of those rooftopping people. It's a dangerous sport for Youtube views.

It seems the Banff Apartments building at Georgia and Bute is getting some rehabilitation.

^ I've always loved that building. I like the tiny little balconies it has.
