Yeah this has been there ever since I came to town and I always liked seeing it although I've never been inside. I always look in and it just seems kind of empty. I don't understand how they stay in business.

This is one of my favourite parts of town too. The main streets in the area (North, Windsor, and Robie) aren't that great, but walking around the side streets is borderline magical. Especially at night.

It was done as a condo development (I think the whole row is an addition onto the back of a building fronting Gottingen) and each "unit" is 2 separate stacked units. In Halifax it is kind of hard to predict what you will find where, so there are lots of surprises hiding out on these side streets. Around Jubilee and Henry Street for example there's a neighbourhood of brick and stone rowhouses. There's lots of nice stuff around Dalhousie that is somewhat cut off from downtown by less interesting newer buildings.

The Hydrostone is another example that is pretty unexpected.

This happens in the suburbs too, e.g. in Bedford where you can find pockets of houses from the 1800's and even some buildings from the 1700's.

Some of the newer cities don't have this because they were built during a short period of time and grew quickly and fairly uniformly.
