Ottawa's BRT works amazingly well - due primarily to a dedicated roadway system (the Transitway)... not just protected transit lanes.

They're getting an LRT now, but the BRT will continue to be a fantastic asset, due largely to its flexibility (shorter routes could access/leave the Transitway at regular intervals - linking feeder routes with the Transitway routes; if a bus breaks down, it doesn't shut down the system...unlike subway/LRT breakdown; etc).

Side bonus of the Transitway - emergency service vehicles had a great route to avoid gridlock. They had full access to the Transitway & could zip long distances with relative ease - only competing traffic were buses... and no traffic lights to slow down for.

The Transitway was easily a quicker way to get from one end of the city to downtown, or across town. In virtually all cases, it is significantly quicker than driving. I believe this is one of the key reasons transit is such an instilled part of life in Ottawa... I can count on one hand the number of people I knew (in all demographics, and income brackets) who didn't have a bus pass.

Not that I'm saying Regina will ever get a Transitway... just remembering Ottawa's system.

Canada geese sculpture is apparently being reinstalled on the plaza at Conexus on 11th and Hamilton next week. This section of the downtown is going to look amazing.

Yes the 18 Block Hamilton is downtown's best block. You have several modern office towers, tons of store front retail (spaces at least until Shoppes on Hamilton get leased up), a little night life with The Capitol Jazz, two very nice heritage buildings, a residential tower and now new sidewalks and trees.

While it's possible Regina gets money for non-RT transit, I don't think it's likely.

RT is sexier and a far easier sell politically. I fully expect Saskatoon to get RT funds, but not Regina.

I wouldn't be surprised if Trudeau's transit fund goes 100% to RT projects. Not that I agree with that philosophy, but it plays better to the media.

did Saskatoon vote in any liberals ,I know Regina got Ralph he did wonders for the city the last time he was in power

I doubt we will get much for RT, but one thing I did think of...

In the platform there was also a commitment to accessible housing. I wouldn't be surprised if Namerind went after some funding when the rules are set out. It could speed up their proposal on Lorne, depending on how/if that platform promise is fulfulled.

Part of the presentation talked about Parliament Avenue being the North/South dividing line for enrollment between St. Kateri and St. Pius.

It'll be a bonus just to be able to walk down the street. I miss the trees though. Those pictures of before/after that were shown were maddening really. The street just felt so much better with the trees.

The street does have (new) trees on both sides again... but I think you're referring to the loss of mature trees.

I know the removal of at least 2 mature trees was because they were dead... but the rest were removed for construction.
