There was one not that long ago. It was one of the casino proposals, and it got passed up in favor of the Live! proposal down in South Philly.

But yeah, I'm hoping the owners have taken a hint from East Market and are getting the ball rolling on that site.

Yes, I recall. Maybe they just need a little time to regroup after putting all of their chips on the wrong number. Hopefully they come up with something that is the "highest and best use." Given the proximity to a major transit hub and being between the convention and tourism areas, a substantial mixed-use project seems like a can't-miss proposition. Hopefully it has some real height. Saw this at the end of that article:

Oh, the vulgarity is the humor (as well as the gimmick he initially used to Get Noticed).

More than any other project that went nowhere in Philadelphia, the Core States project for 8th and Market was the one I miss the most. Not only would there be a really tall tower east of Broad on our skyline; but you'd have a massive corporate HQ with a ton of jobs along Market East. Who knows where Market East's trajectory would have gone had this been built?

Something will be built at the 8th and Market lot. But my guess it will be a project similar in size and scope to 1919 Market, a stubby residential tower. I really wish the city could designate this lot KOZ and work with a major tenant (from outside the Phila metro) to make this lot their new corporate HQ.

Me too. This was a huge loss. I can remember how crestfallen I felt at the time
when the project fell through.

The Summit has great presence. Can't say that I like the mish-mash of facades, but that's a quibble.

The Summit looks best from afar. The mismatched base is its worst feature. It's one of the taller buildings in Univ City and easily visible from lots of angles. Definitely a plus for the skyline.

I think it looks really great. I don't have many gripes with it. Have you seen it in person? You gotta think of projects in context. This is a Dormitory for private University. In that contact, it's amazing and may be one of the nicest designed dormitories in the country.

I am excited to see what will fill all of those stores. That is a lot of commercial units down there. Anyone know how many?

As a former Drexel Student, I am pretty jealous of this not being there when I was.
