Some things are more expensive and others cheaper. I was in both places today and the prices vary considerably on most things.

Well that's good! It'll invite comparison shopping, which should be good for both retailers.

I visited both parking lots today after work, and while the BPS lot was about 95% full, the Cabela's lot was also a respectable 75% full or so. I think this is a good sign...........

The site prep work at Plaza 599 on Mapleton Road now extends all the way down to the corner of Mapleton and Lady Ada. I think it's safe to say that this is related to the proposed Timmies/Circle K/Irving proposed for that site.

That's cool to see the signage on that spot and can't wait to see the interior of it and hope when they open that location that they get to renovate/expand their store at CF Champlain.

Since you said at Champlain we went by the SportsChek area the other day, and it seems like the stores on the Sports Chek side are closing, and nothing is going to replace them so that might be a sign of expansion for the Champlain store.

What are you talking about? Are you saying Boathouse is closing? Is there a sign in the window? I haven't heard anything about this, but I haven't been in Champlain in a few weeks. Can anyone corroborate this?

There was no sign but an employee of Boathouse said something about it. Either they said Closing or said that they where moving, and some staff from Sportschek stated that they are looking at having there own entrance from outside into the store. None of this is set in stone tho it's just staff saying what there thinking.

IF boathouse were to move i would see them in the old Bluenotes location where that craft store filler store is and its a shame where coach was that could not be big enough to accommodate a Hollister or a Abercrombie location.

When we're speculating, or when we are reporting unsubstantiated rumours, I believe it is important to state as such. There are a lot of people that read these forums (more than 600,000 views of the Moncton Retail Thread alone). Some people read what is posted here and take it as the gospel truth.

There's no harm in speculation. It just should be prefaced as such.

BTW - an outside entrance for the Champlain Place Sport Chek makes a lot of sense.

In Fredericton at the Regent Mall Sports Chek has a mall entrance and a entrance for Sports Chek,

This rumour cropped up last year too. It was similar in that they were planning on setting up "near Champlain Place". Time will tell if the rumour is serious this time........

There's something afoot at the former Panago Pizza location in the Plaza Boulevard Centre.

There are interior renovations going on. There were no obvious posted signs saying what will be moving in there, but a quick search of the Plaza Corp website indicates that the new tenant will be the women's activewear store Lole.

Lole is an international chain with multiple Canadian locations, including existing stores in Halifax and Saint John.

If they do not setup at the mall there could be the strip mall where Mai Tai is on Champlain or Mapleton Center.

But does anyone know whats going in Plaza 599 except of what we know like the Irving Circle K/ Timmies?

Work is progressing on the new Ultramar going up next to Princess Auto. Gas tanks for the new gas pumps are buried and framing is going up. Seems like they are moving quickly on this. There were even some workers there today in the rain.

In addition to the two locations (Québec & London) already announced a few months ago, Ikea has recently announced two new pick-up locations in Whitby & St Catharines.

I found this RFD thread in which someone claims that a pick-up location is in fact coming to Moncton, as Ikea purchased land "last june [2014] between old Shediac rd and TransCanada highway near the Moncton Airport": http://www.redflagdeals.com/latest-news/...two-tiny-pick-up-point-stores-in-canada/

Can anyone corroborate this claim?

Interesting. No, I have no information on this. I wonder if they're talking about Harrisville Blvd near the new Kent store?

Obviously this is nothing more than hearsay at present, but I'm hopeful Moncton might make the short list of possible IKEA pick-up point stores. The first two went to London & QC. There was recently a third one announced for Whitby ON (I think - certainly some place in the GTA).

So far they haven't ranged anywhere outside central Canada with these new small format stores. If the next batch of new stores are also in central Canada, then I would think that IKEA will continue to ignore the hinterland. If on the other hand the next batch of stores includes locations like in interior BC or in Saskatchewan, then I would take that as a good sign that they might eventually look east.

Halifax would be insulted with anything less than a full store. Moncton on the other hand would be delighted with a smaller format IKEA.

Not to diss on Halifax but I think that Moncton is better located in the maritimes. But it would be nice for us to have a smaller scale IKEA. But thats only speculation but we have been right on a bunch of other retailers coming to town. But time will tell.
