While the Leafs do have a pretty corporate crowd, I think it you are seeing an illusion created by the free scarves that were handed out.

Bringing Copps up to modern NHL standards on speculation would be completely foolish... Hamilton would be wiser to just put in basic upgrades knowing that if/when the time comes for the NHL, there will be a new building anyway.

That ACC scoreboard is pretty nice. Really great definition on the screen. Probably one of the easiest to read in the league.

Don't worry. The City has NO plans of bringing the arena to NHL standards. They are simply hiring consultants to draft up plans that would be already in place showing a detailed report as to what needs to be done to the arena to bring it up to NHL standards.

For the future it will be status quo with basic upgrades. Only if an NHL owner actually committed to Hamilton would they upgrade the arena to NHL standards.

So basically they're fucking around and wasting money on pointless reports that will all have to be re-done if somebody serious actually approaches us in the future (since costs and stadium age will be different by then)

Please outline to me the outstanding on-ice achievements of our Canadian NHL teams over the past generation.

I bring up the Leafs because they're Canada's biggest city and the organisation with the deepest pockets. Their performance has been stunningly poor, not only over the past decade but the past five decades to be brutally honest. If the supposed centre of the hockey universe can't put together a winning team/ attract free agents, what hope would Hamilton ever have? Or Quebec for that matter. Or Winnipeg? And on and on and on. Is merely 'competing' enough?

If I'm a top NHL player, I've got my agent on the phone to those Florida and California teams. And I wouldn't be the only one...

No sense in drawing up plans on a hypothetical $300 million refurbish of Copps Coliseum - the estimated cost quoted by one person in the article. Might as well spend an additional $50 - $100 million and build a brand new 17 - 18,000 seat facility should the need arise.

Just like on the HFBoards, all this Hamiton talk with regards to an upgraded or new arena NHL ready arena, territory rights with Buffalo/Toronto, teams that could be relocated... yet there's still no one actually trying to bring a team to Hamilton.

Until there's someone with deep pockets trying to make it happen, this is all pretty pointless.

Nobody said a team is coming. City is just doing due diligance commisioning consultants to look at what needs to be done to copps to extend its useful life(its showing it age) with and more likely without an NHL team. It helps when you have a prominent citizen willining to raise private sector funds for the consulting services as well.
