Harper's best PM numbers are still lower in Quebec than they are in Ontario or certainly the Prairies.

Another interpretation. There is a constituency for Conservativism in Quebec. Harper like Mario Dumont in the 2007 Quebec provincial election on a similar reasonable accommodation theme may be about to capture it (if the recent polls are to be believed).

I'm with you on this issue vid. We both live in cities with large aboriginal populations so we actually interact with actual indigenous people.

While Ekos (IVR) shows a Con lead in Quebec (am still quite doubtful myself), Ekos prez Frank Graves says today that while the Cons are doing very well in the Quebec City region... they are now also doing well in QC's "north". That's def a new one. Cons are not really registering in Montreal (of course).

In any event, like Nanos, Ekos will be now be releasing their daily rolling polls (IVR) as well.
..
These last 10 or so days of the campaign is when things get quite interesting... many will decide next week ... momentum is key... and "emotion" (niqab in QC) is also a major factor in voting intentions.

CPC results in Quebec for federal elections:

Year, percentage of vote, number of seats won:

2004, 8.8%, 0

2006, 24.6%, 10

2008, 21.7%, 10

2011, 16.5%, 5

Right now the polls have the CPC in Quebec at between 18-28%. Probably at 23-25% to narrow it down a bit. It's pretty much the same as what the province ended up with in 2006. It would mean a gain of a whole five seats?!?!?

Who are these people predicting that Quebec would elect 25 more CPCs?!?! I just don't believe that the Conservatives are very attractive to very many Quebeckers. I agree that they have a good chance in many places the CAQ won provincially, around Beauce and Quebec City Regions but it's not really that much of Quebec overall.

And there have been gains in Liberal support for sure which will likely mean more seats. Very hard to predict the eventual seat count but I really don't see big CPC or Bloc gains.

They were very smart not to try to be all things to all people in Quebec.

For myself, I have always voted Conservative but this time was really willing and eager to switch. Unfortunately nothing I saw gave me any real confidence in the other parties -- one with a sophomoric leader and one with a plausible leader but no team. At this point I'm reluctantly edging back to the Conservatives, or more likely to not bothering to show up to vote (which I know means I can't complain for the next few years -- likely not a bad thing).

I think it was a stroke of genius to have such a long campaign -- whatever freshness and newness the two opposition leaders had has largely dissipated by now. It has come down to a "least bad" choice for most voters and in that sort of contest Harper has a chance because you can vote for him without having to pretend to like him.

There could be four-way splits in a lot of Quebec seats this time, which could make 23-25% deliver more seats than it did in 2006 when the NDP wasn't much of a factor ... possibly, anyway.

Things are going from bad to worse in the Middle East, it's very important for Canada to have strong leadership in such a turbulent world. Harper is the only logical option IMO.

This is fascinating. How often to you see a corporation Twitter account call out the media for their blatant liberal bias.

Yes, let's all look to multinational companies' tweets to inform us on who we should vote for.

Yes, let's remain steadfast, vigilant and aggressive against a part of the world that wants nothing to do with us.

By Quebec City's "north" I assume they mean the Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean region. That area hasn't really been a Tory dead zone in recent elections anyway. Minister Denis Lebel was elected there and Tory candidates in some of the other ridings have been competitive.

So, I've been reading the comments on missing and murdered aboriginal women and there is an absolutely delicious irony in how many of the pro-niqab crowd are indifferent to the aboriginal issue, or at least pooh-pooh it.

It illustrates quite evocatively how the niqab is the limousine liberal cause célèbre par excellence. You can say you're in favour, appear open to the world and cosmopolitan, and not get your hands dirty. It don't matter if you throw under the bus all the Muslim, Arab and Middle Eastern women who have first-hand experience with the issue and say that it sucks.

On the other hand, the issue of aboriginal women and violence against them is a dirty, messy, costly one. It's also innately Canadian and has no post-modern cosmopolitan veneer associated with it... Nor does it realistically offer any opportunity for Canadians to feel better about themselves vis-à-vis other nations.

Nice try guys, but I can see through you.

Business-wise, this election could turn out to be a make or break for EKOS. I mean, they've been so far off what all the others have been reporting.

The election results will be telling. Either they're the wonder boys who got it right when all the others screwed up... or they lose all credibility as a reliable pollster.

Must be stressful...

Nope.

You've got a reason to think that they are (besides some articles/links saying they will)? I'm trying to think of the last time soldiers from the "dirt land" region came to our country with guns. I do remember the last time we went to theirs.

While others would look to Trudeau, given Harper's shaky record in matters of defence and international relations.

The Prime Minister’s Office directed Canadian immigration officials to stop processing one of the most vulnerable classes of Syrian refugees this spring and declared that all UN-referred refugees would require approval from the Prime Minister, a decision that halted a critical aspect of Canada’s response to a global crisis.

The Globe and Mail has learned that the Prime Minister intervened in a file normally handled by the Citizenship and Immigration department in the months before dramatic images of a dead toddler brought the refugee crisis to the fore. The processing stop, which was not disclosed to the public, was in place for at least several weeks.
