Could the city make it easier to convert zoning for these potential projects? I imagine it is pretty pro-forma but I doubt that means it is accelerated that much.

That was a very different time when there was basically zero investment taking place in the downtown. In this case, I don't think the City should be offering any incentives. Private owners should be using private money to figure out how to utilize their asset to produce a return that is favourable to them and their investors.

Edmonton Club building (100 St/MacDonald Drive) is fenced off. Didn't get a chance for a closer look, but must be some serious exterior work happening.

Breathing room granted Edmonton's heritage arts buildings

The immediate threat to two downtown heritage arts buildings has been removed, but city officials say preserving the buildings in perpetuity won’t be cheap.

Restoring the Graphic Arts Building and Mitchell and Reed Auction House, best known for housing the ARTery, would cost an estimated $2.7 million, plus the costs associated with the loss of the land.

The city originally intended to tear down the buildings, use the site for temporary storage during LRT construction, then sell it to a highrise developer to further redevelopment in The Quarters. Now city officials say they’ve found an alternate site for construction storage.

The city Wednesday released an assessment on the condition of the buildings...

It says it was leased. Any idea to who? I thought I heard a chain restaurant was interested in it at one time.

Academy of Learning is moving into the Edmonton Club, they are being punted from City Centre Mall 3rd floor. Original Joes was also rumored to open on at least one floor, but not sure about that now.

Ultimas brick work is very good. Has that old town feeling to it.

I am surprised with how long its taking the hotel parkade in the ICE District. It seems like they've gotten nowhere, unless I'm missing something.

Most of the parkade is going gangbusters. But on the far east side of it has not started yet, looks like they're still doing earthwork, pilings and so forth.

^ Yup; the footings are something like 75-100m deep. That's bound to take some time. Hell, just look at the size of the rebar arriving on site in those photos.
