I was a passenger for once on a drive up Macleod Trail (always a good source of ugly) and noticed this weird building off to the side a block or so away in an industrial area. Not sure what's better, the trailers or the Frankenbarn / loft.

Macleod Trail in general is ugly as hell. I think this building is especially awful though. I also like the tiny sidewalk right beside the speeding traffic. I do enjoy the Taj Mahal though. That mural's been there since I was a kid.

This business strip across the street is home to one of the sketchiest adult video stores. Funny there's a Fast Lube beside it. Then again most of this stretch is a combination of hole in the wall asian cuisine, porno shops, lube shops, car dealerships and pawn stores and head shops.

This car dealership building has always struck me as one of the ugliest anywhere. It's been abandoned several times but always seems to have some kind of used car place occupying it between absences.

Montreal to dump 8 billion litres of sewage into St. Lawrence River

The St. Lawrence River could reek like sewage for a week, starting on Oct. 18.

That's when the City of Montreal plans to start dumping a colossal amount of untreated wastewater directly into the river from a major sewer interceptor for a seven-day stretch.

The amount dumped will be 13 cubic metres per second over seven days: that's eight million cubic metres in all, or eight billion litres — the equivalent of 2,600 Olympic-sized pools of raw sewage, from homes, industries and hospitals.

Up until the 1980s, it was common practice to clear the sewers this way, although it is no longer considered acceptable.

I do know that when Calgary cut over a couple of it's mains and when it prepped for the new Pine Creek treatment centre it had to perform similar pipe maintenance, but Calgary including diversion construction as part of the planning such that no waste was ever released.

Can anyone familiar with the project in Montreal shed some light on this?? I can't find anything as to why it wasn't planned/managed that way.

Heninger Toyota has owned the property since at least 2008. Brian Heningers personal vehicle collection is housed in the old showroom of what was once a hyundai dealership. If you get a chance to stop and look in the windows, there are some very cool old toyotas in there, including a corolla with over a million kms.

Certainly at least a bit too busy, and I also dislike the colors, but compared to some of Waterloo's most serious uglies, this thing is almost a beauty, as is.

Waterloo continues to make improvements to its unique brand of ugly. If they put a clocktower on one of the recent student towers, nobody would even mention Laval again!

I suppose there's a good reason for doing that... lack of realistic alternative options, probably. Also, it's still pretty much only organic matter we're talking about, though. Nothing truly toxic/chemical.

Toronto needed to do major work on the Don Valley sewer line recently. It's solution was to build a second sewer from scratch, switch over, then repair and keep the original as a permanent backup.

Montreal is just being incredibly cheap, though possibly still not as bad as other Canadian ocean-side cities water treatment (10 years ago at least, haven't kept up on recent improvements).

Thanks for sharing that. Explains why I've randomly seen cars in there with no apparent business of any kind within the rest of the buildings. He should implode it. Ugly as sin. It's shocking how much land lays fallow in that part of Macleod. That old Willy's burger shack got torn down way over a decade ago and it still sits empty. That space next to the old hotel which is now the Dream Centre (affordable housing?) is another one that comes to mind.

Yeah raw sewage fits the theme of this thread quite nicely!

Sounds like I'll just miss that lovely smell as I'm visiting on October 29th.
