He was simply asking around to sit somewhere else, when the women in question got angry. If someone is going to be bigoted, racist, or discriminatory, it is best they conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful.

I can see why it would be cathartic to call them out, publicly shame them, go to the media and expose them, and marginalize their attitudes as much as possible. But at the same time, it wasn't like he was calling her names, being obvious that he thinks less of women, or being disrespectful to her in any way beyond not engaging her in a conversation.

The anger and media outrage seems quite lopsided towards vilifying a guy who was, at the end of the day, politely trying to work around his own beliefs.
Yes I agree with that. If someone was uttering racial or sexist slurs the airline would need to promptly step up and advised that their code of conduct does not permit such behaviour and that all passengers and staff needs to behave in a respectful manner toward one another. But I don't consider it appropriate for a private business to be moralizing or condescending to its customers, even by taking a stance I agree with. A company isn't their parent, teacher, spiritual leader, babysitter, or anyone else in such a position. After all, just because at this moment they may be taking a moral stance I agree with, the next moment they may be moralizing with ME about something and making me feel discriminated against. Nope, I'll happily stick to neutral.

Sorry, but I don't see not wanting to be around people of a different 🞵🞵🞵, a different religion, a different colour, a different physical ability, etc. as a simple, banal, neutral question of personal preference... People may feel this way, but I don't see why organizations should kowtow to such stuff.

You would really want a private business to whom you were paying good money to provide you with a service, to tell you what personal opinions you should hold? A company's roll is to provide a product or service, be courteous and respectful to all its customers, and to enforce any rules necessary to allow it to do so in a safe and efficient manner. That's not kowtowing to "stuff" it fulfilling it's role of providing services to its customers.

Well, I wouldn't expect them to bend over backwards to cater to my opinions and demands that are discriminatory to others. (Who are clients too, BTW.)

Radio-Canada is reporting Mulcair is now trying to stickhandle dissent on the niqab issue from several of his Quebec candidates. At least three have been identified as distancing themselves from the leader's views during debates and interviews in their ridings.

This niqab issue is a real distraction and I'm tired of it being such a big part of this election campaign.

Trudeau's stance on bill c24 is going to hurt him quite negatively.

Also that david suzuki article might hurt his chances to win over green/ndp supporters.

The fact this is an issue at all shows me that most Canadians are batshit stupid.

No kidding, eh?

Téléjournal now reports TWO (2)!! women have tried to wear a niqab for a citizenship oath since 2011.

Suspect that this issue emotionally resonates with the so-called `pure laine` Québécois... but I will defer to my QC friends on here as to whether my assessment is correct or not.

We'll see what happens come E-day. Is the Duffy trial on hold until after then? I'm still waiting for more 🞵🞵🞵🞵 to come out.

OTOH, frankly I doubt even 1 outta 100 voters even know what Bill C-24 even is. Even I didn`t.

As for Suzuki matter, only us political junkies are aware of same. Not the voting public. And not a big matter in any event. Seriously.

I think we've already gone on at length as to why this is a bigger issue in Quebec.

"The environmentalist advised Trudeau about accepting the internationally agreed target for a two-degree rise in global temperature means that 80 per cent of the oil sands would have to stay in the ground."

I don't think not agreeing with Suzuki's rather aggressive stance is climate change is going to alienate many NDP supporters. Maybe some Greens, but they're so fringe their numbers aren't hugely relevant.

Believe it or not, I agree. Even though I've debated it ad nauseam on here over the past few days.

It still won't affect the way I vote though.

Yes the Duffy trial is now on hiatus until after the election (thank God).

If you'd like, maybe I could text the Duff and see if he wouldn't mind wearing a niqab during his perambulations around downtown Ottawa. That might help stimulate some debate......

While I am a Nanos guy through and through... I also look at all of the polls... like the rest of us political junkies...

Have never been a fan of Ekos (IVR), for example, ... but within the past 15 minutes Frank Graves, prez of Ekos, tweeted this FWIW...

Quote:
We have been daily tracking for weeks. Just not publishing that right now. Will put something out by week end for sure.

We seem to have a different picture of the landscape right now/ exploring why.

For 14 consecutive days, a sample of 7,000, both IVR and live interviewer, we have the CPC in a clear lead.

And I mean every day and not marginal.

Clearly we have been polling another country.

I have no idea why others aren't seeing this ---honestly . Totally puzzled.
It`s Ekos. But still kinda weird.

Why is it necessary for every single candidate to toe the party line? It's such BS.

Might as well dispense with local MPs, just tally a vote for the party.
