I so agree! The conversation isn't a bad one. It's just very subjective and has too many variables of why people live where they do and whether or not they live there because of affordability or because they like it.

I certainly don't mean to come across as telling someone what they can own or where they can live, I'm saying if you are going to complain about how long your commute is while you are living in a house 3x larger than what's necessary for your family size, you get zero compassion from me. Live in an appropriately sized home and have zero commute, easy. But yea, logic escapes a lot of people.

tl;dr I'm only showing zero love to people who are making a choice which results in a long commute and then complaining about that commute.

If you haven't driven past this church, do yourself a favor. It' a remarkable structure and it survived a huge fire and vandalism for over 30 years. Former Phoenix Mayor Terry Goddard was instrumental in trying to save this Church. Seems that they're getting pretty close to the goal of reusing this grand Church in new and exciting ways. Thinking about all the new construction happening just north of it with all the new housing going up in the Roosevelt district, THIS WILL BE THE PLACE TO BE!

^ I would have rather seen a tower component for Muse on Central and McDowell, but I'm more excited to see some of these lots give way for housing that will beget future towers later on. There is *far* too much land in Phoenix where one can build a tower and a lot of it needs to go away and ideally push up the value of remaining un/underdeveloped parcels to where towers will more frequently pencil out.

I would also love to see a siteplan or rendering for the Broadstone Arts District development....

I like seeing the renovations to that church, but 6 restaurants is overkill for an area of downtown that's pretty dead and off the beaten path from residential clusters.

Everyone keeps saying the construction on Muse is underway in a sarcastic manner but it's definitely underway, there are structures on the property being built.

Unless they did something today, as of Sunday evening there was nothing being done on the Muse site. You might be confusing Arthaus which is a small condo development that is right next door behind the Arizona Opera building and could give the illusion that it's part of Muse.

Six does seem like overkill, but if you think of all the apartments that will be built just north of it from Van Buren to Roosevelt; Alta Filmore's 230 apartments and the RFP on the big plot of land where the Pappa's school was, that's over 600 apartments. So 800 apartments just up the street. It will be a remarkable transformation that will require all kinds of new services to come. Can't wait.

Yep. I think he is confused on the location. There is ZERO movement on the NWC of McDowell and Central. There is some old structure there that has been there forever. It is not new, nor is it part of the project.

I spoke with the "Development Manager" at Lennar for Muse on September 8 and he said at that time that they would start moving utilities in 2-3 weeks. That was 3 weeks ago tomorrow.

Those apartments are a long ways from coming online--warm bodies have to be there first, and many of those warm bodies will be eating in Downtown's crowded restaurant scene.

As for Muse .... that project has $700,000+ in paid permits with new ones popping up all the time.

I guess I missed the Alta Thomas project's announcement. Does anyone know what they are doing with the existing structures? I'm about 99% sure that one of the existing homes in that site is where the Winnie Ruth Judd murders happened. It would be sad to watch another piece of unique Phoenix history lost for what I assume will end up being unimpressive schlock.

^ The Winnie Ruth Judd house is not getting demolished as part of Alta Thomas. Just about everything else on that block is tho except the newer townhome condo things.

And yes, all these 4 and 5 story apartment buildings are schlock, but great cities are FULL of 4 - 5 story schlocky apartment buildings. If we had a square mile of them, we'd be approaching Manhattan-like densities.

Well, from this list it appears that Central Station has been pushed back until Spring 2016. I wonder what the hold up is? From what I heard earlier this year, the developer was more than ready to go. Oh well. Maybe a particular poster is getting his wish of a site redesign.

I have been to Ocotillo a couple of times already, lunch on opening day and coffee today, they told me the owner also owns the lot across the street, behind China Chili and is planning to develop townhouses on it. He's an architect so there may be some validity.

Well we are in the midst of a building boom and the stock market has been shakey all summer.

They probably don't want another Mortgages LTD situation that left a 30 story cement Husk on mill for 4 years and another by chandler mall for 10.
