I'm pretty sure I remember a while back the City banned putting posters on light poles, maybe it was just downtown? Anyone know about that? Either way it didn't stop anything.

they crews from JC Construction have been back in the area over the last few days doing something on that wall when I go down to Tim's for coffee in the morning.

I also think that they have to wait for Hydro to take out the existing light standards so they can finish the concrete work on Hargrave by City Place.

At the Jets vs Wild game I noticed there was some kind of lighting on those walls. And yes I also can confirm there have been crews working on them over the last number of days/weeks. Haven't been keeping track so.

One problem is they trap moisture and cause rust/week spots under the posters.

The city had a chance to patent a plastic sleave devleoped by Winnipeg Hydro staff a few years ago that could go on the posts to allow posters to go on but be replaced periodicly to prevent problems/ clutter but never followed through on it.

large, substantial floodlights have been mounted around the base of the white royal bank building at portage and fort. wonder when these will debut?

They were on Thursday, the entire building was lime green from top to bottom. It stands out majorly and looked pretty exciting from a couple blocks away. I actually thought there was a special event or something happening but didn't feel like walking over to check. If this is going to be a regular lighting scheme it will be an attention getter and hopefully more downtown buildings follow the trend.

downtown has improved vastly over the past few years its becoming way more vibrant and upscale.... all the buildings are getting upgraded, cladded, steet scaping,, new statues and other decorations.. its looking good the funnulator by mts center looks cool and was actually a good idea. alt hotel mb hydro bldg. and glasshouse make area around mts center look a lot more modern.. if so po square and sky condos also get developed itll create nice contrast from the exchange.. each area has its own unique feel and identity

I love how many jobs the city will be creating in the next year or so..

save on foods locations 300 jobs plix
outlet mall 1300 jobs approx
shaw call center 400 new jobs
isco industries 12 jobs
addition of the Manitoba moose should create jobs

I like it

and who knows what so po will announce in the next few few weeks about possible anchors for their project.. hopefully they'll add new businesses.. head offices

This is for Nuit Blanche tonight. This year they added an ArtWalk that goes from WAG all the way down Graham and takes Fort into the Exchange. There will be art/light installations and parties along the walk and outside many businesses and galleries along the way.

I mean maybe there's a chance the building owner likes it and will leave it but I know the organizers and this company is doing the lighting on the entire walk, it's not a specific installation always.

I also imagine as the main tenant RBC wouldn't be too pleased if their building was permanently lit up in their biggest competitor's colour who is located across the street.

I never got a close-up look, but from across the street the lights, brackets and wiring look pretty permanent..

ya man they permanent for sure

they whole plan for downtown revitalization was to add more lighting to make it feel safer at night.. especially during winter when it gets dark pre early.

You're sure that includes this building? 220 Portage isn't even on the designated "ARTery" walk, which is only on Graham, and as others mentioned, the floodlights do indeed look quite permanent (and very different from anything on the lightsunlimited website, which seems to be decorative stuff and temporary installations).

I do agree that green is an odd choice, though -- when I first glimpsed the green light on Friday morning, my initial thought was that it was a reflection from the TD building across the street.

Edit: Not surprisingly, the colour can change. Right now it's violet. Looks awesome.
