Great News! Construction on Capital Pointe is gearing up!
No, no, no... this time we should believe them...

http://cjme.com/article/219866/regina-mayor-says-permit-sought-start-capital-pointe-project-again

Mayor Fougere: "The land's been vacant for a number of years, but it is owned by the company, they have the right to take their time or do what they want, of course, we can't force them to build."

No, you can't force them to build, but you can make it costly for a company to just sit on a on prime pieces of land. Other cities have bylaws in place allowing for property tax surcharges & the like. At least the City hasn't approved a "temporary" parking lot (I'd bet the CP folks have informally approached the CoR about this option).

Scott is being replaced right now, but it has a tiny enrollment.
I attended Martin, and I can tell you that it needs a lot of students. Hopefully they'll be smart with student allocation and have students attend these high schools.

I am curious though as to who they will name the school after. I imagine that Greens on Gardiner Joint Use School is not a really good name

They all have 2 names. The Catholic one in G on G is St. Elizabeth. The public side does not have a name but they almost always name them after former school board members.

Catholic names:

St. Elizabeth: located in Greens on Gardiner in southeast Regina. St. Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist and one of the first to know of Mary's pregnancy.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha: located in Harbour Landing. St. Kateri Tekakwitha is the patron saint of the environment and ecology. She was an Algonquin-Mohawk who was shunned for her conversion to Catholicism.

St. Nicholas: located in Skywood. St. Nicholas is the patron saint of children and students. He had a reputation for secret gift giving and is also known as Santa Claus.

Some activity going on at the corner of Scarth and 15th Avenue - there was to be a condo built there at one point. Not sure if it's related. I remember thinking the condo renders looked pretty decent.

That project is long delayed. I would be surprised if it proceeded now in this market.

LP is reporting on a plan to re-purpose some of the Connaught School Brick to construct a "Rassembler" at the entrance to Cathedral Village at 13th and Albert.

Kind of an odd location if you ask me, can't imagine it living up to its vision of a desirable meeting place. I appreciate the reuse of materials from Connaught, but I feel like it could be done far more effectively and interestingly with some more time and thought.

Also, that render makes me cringe and worry about the quality of the final product.

What could be better than a Mac's parking lot?

They'll probably time the project to align with Mac's rebranding as Circle-K... you know, to ride on coattails of such an exciting change.

He's the only owner of the land. Now I see why you don't post very much on here.

It is safe to assume that this will be terrible. When's the last time good art came from a committee?

According to their website, 2nd Home is owned by PR Investments (founded by Tim & Wade Probe). The Leader-Post indicated in August that a numbered company owned by Shin Chair was the primary investor in the project.
There's a sign on the construction fence: PR Investments is the General Contractor. I don't see anything on their website that indicates they've been a general contractor in the past (two business lines to date appear to have been rental accommodations & property management) - seems like a shift for them.
