Indeed, it is a substantial difference. The IPSOS poll "feels right" to me wrt Ontario, but I'd like to know a lot more about both sets of polls to have a better sense of who's on track.

Why is it that so many working class people vote against their own best interests? Bait and switch? Purple KoolAid? I just don't get it.

If you are not willing to discuss the specifics of the three parties' platforms, there's not much point to this.

Look at the history of the Liberal party, higher taxes. You can't make all these promises without having a way to pay for it.

The right-wing media have been very adept at finding and pushing the hot buttons that are appealling to that demographic. Unfortunately a good chunk of them fall for it.

Well, I know my tax rate will go up with the Liberals. Under the unholy alliance of (Liberal) Brian Gallant and (Liberal) Justin Trudeau, the top marginal tax rate in NB will be just a shade below 60%, the fourth highest rate in the entire OECD!!

Thank goodness I'm personally incorporated and can avoid a good chunk of this, otherwise I might have to take advantage of my mother's American heritage and move south to the Excited States........

There are many parts of Justin's election platform I find attractive, but his tax plans are a game changer as far as I'm concerned. Given his "make the rich pay" philospohy, there is no way in hell I'll vote for him. Too bad.

I have not seen the costings of the Liberal platform, but it seems that all or most of what they are proposing is paid for by the re-directing of benefits from wealthier recipients to the wage earning middle class. I assume that they are also taking the projected Conservative budget surpluses into account (risky, but still...). Cutting EI premiums by less than the Conservative propose also gives the Libs resources to fund their employment related promises. There will probably be individuals who will end up paying more if income-splitting for non-pensioners is approved (again more revenue to pay for the platform), but again this will tend to affect higher income earners than the working middle class. Reducing TFSA contribution room will affect some taxpayers (including me), but will not increase taxes for the vast majority of Canadians.

One can have a dislike of income redistribution, which is how I would view some of the Liberal proposals, but to simply dismiss them as irrelevant of non-existent take partisanship too far, imho.

Similarly, I see the NDP have today announced a four year freeze on EI premiums. One can have a good discussion about whether the government should use EI premiums to support general expenditures (it has been happening for years and all three parties would continue to do it, to varying extents), but this will generate income to support their promises.

Well there you go, you're incorporated, so you can avoid it. Are you a doctor? If so, you should move to Ontario. I don't know about NB, but here medical professionals can sprinkle dividends to their family members.

Main reason why I'm totally supporting Trudeau. Heck yeah I'll take a 2% reduction on my income tax rate.

I am a physician, and yes I can give dividends to family members, but I find all this dancing around the tax system rather deceitful and somewhat "dirty". Don't get me wrong, everthing I'm doing is perfectly legal - it just seems rather distasteful.

I would prefer a simpler tax system; one that is not designed to enrich my accountant and my lawyer. I have no problem with paying my fair share of taxes, but once the tax rate gets to be 60%, one has to wonder what has happened to fairness.

Sure I can shelter my income in my corporation, but it still impacts my standard of living. Any money I take from the corporation, either in terms of salary or dividends is subject to taxes, thus you have to think twice about what it is that you want to spend money on. Luxury purchases therefore might go out the window. Money in the corporation therefore tends to be somewhat untouchable. About the only thing incorporation does for you is allow you to save for your retirement in a tax sheltered manner. Otherwise incorporation is a pain in the —.

Isn't that the old Liberal campaign strategy?
Campaign from the left and rule from the right?
Or was "Screw the west, we'll take the rest!"

All parties feed us a line of — during the election and then when they get in its "OMG the books are soooo bad that we'll have to delay these promises (except the ones where we plan to cut - hello EH101, and now F-35) til a later date!"

We only have 3 main parties. If every time one of them does something you don't like you permanently ban it and no matter what happens including changes in leadership, platform, passage of time, etc. doesn't affect your view it won't be long before you're out of options. Unless of course that hardline approach only applies to parties you already don't like and you take a more forgiving approach toward the one you do.

I clearly remember PM Chretien giving $100 billion tax cuts in the 2001 Budget. I believe it still stands as Canada's largest tax cuts in history.

Won't be fully implemented for EIGHT years. Two majority mandates away too.

Mulcair pressed on feasibility of child-care plan

http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/mulcair-pressed-on-feasibility-of-child-care-plan-1.2574359

NDP Leader Tom Mulcair continues to face questions over the timeline and feasibility of his promise to create one million affordable child care spaces.

In an interview with CTV Atlantic’s Steve Murphy, Mulcair was asked whether the plan would benefit parents who currently have pre-school-aged children.

“Everybody with a young children today has an interest in making sure we have for the future a quality, affordable child care system,” the NDP leader responded.

When asked when the plan will be fully realized, Mulcair told Murphy the details have been published and “everybody can go online and find it.”

When pressed, Mulcair said, “it’s eight years, but at the end of the first mandate, at the end of four years, it will already be 60 per cent in place.”

The NDP has spelled out in documents from the beginning that its plan for one million spaces costing parents no more than $15 a day would take eight years to fully achieve, and that the provinces would need to agree to provide 40 per cent of the funding.

I think it's because everyone always thinks that somehow, one day they'll become part of the 1%. It's the dream that allows the rich to get the poor to enslave themselves. That's why — like Kevin O'Leary are so popular.

Yes, well the right wing in the U.S. has done very well for itself by selling this dream. Unfortunately the trend is spreading to other countries including Canada.
