That's the same owner as has always been there. He must have found new backers or something.

Considering he's an ophthalmologist that makes sense.

Well yes, it's just a pretty significant site for just that use so there might be more to it. But he's got the capital to do something nice with the site.

Shell took out a $3 million+ building permit in July, so this must be a pretty significant gas bar. That number would not cover land and a lot of other costs.

Also this former eyesore east of Teppanyaki is all gone and an expansion to the adjacent strip mall is under construction. The existing building was also recently refurbished.

It is my understanding that it will have a car wash as well, which would account for much of the cost.

It was all certainly ugly, but at the same time it's sad to see mixed use properties replaced with strip malls and parking.

Gilmour's

Anyone know what happened to Gilmour's Deli on Scarth Street? They just closed shop and there's a for rent sign out front. Was a great lunch spot, sad to see them gone.

Gilmour's just went through a pretty extensive renovation and reopened this week. The shop across the hall from them, the former Aria's Boutique, is the space that's for rent. It's been vacant for over six months.

Has there been any announcements as to what's going in the EAST Superstore development?

Which of these Golden Mile tenants are closing forever with the re-development and which have moved? I see Elizabeth's has moved to Quance.

The Rainbow and The Broken Rack were staying. I thought Royal Bank was staying as well.

Beadplus has already moved to Badham Blvd (old diocese lands area). Bird Film has also moved to Badham.

Interesting...most of the medical offices from the Golden Mile also moved to Badham...I'm happy Bird Film is there, I need a place to develop my photos and it's nice and convenient!

It will be interesting to see how the transplanted tenants of the Golden Mile do in new, different and significantly more expensive space.

Yes you know how this plays out. The new landlord gives them inducements like free rent and leasehold improvement allowances. When the free rent period is over they pay for the inducements with much higher rents, which in some cases they cannot afford.
