Edmonton is on a roll!

Second tallest city in Canada.

Don't get carried away now. You still can't really see their DT until you're a couple kms away form it. I think in time they will fill in more of the gaps with taller towers but right now Stantec is like the CN tower is to the rest of Toronto.

There isn't even a proper render. How could you know that?

It looks more like a Vancouver House influenced Kengo Kuma design, which should fit nicely in the city and act as a good gateway building coming in from Georgia.

Has a Vancouver House vibe but, it's clearly Kengo Kuma style . I'm liking it more than Telus Sky although I'm sure it's residential opposed to mixed use. Still not convinced with the floor plate transition on Telus Sky.

I'm surprised to hear that come from you, who normally seems to prefer more minimalist boxes and high quality glass envelopes. This one is interesting but IMO the boxes the windows are set inside of for Telus Sky and Vancouver House look more elegant than the random punched windows on this one. I don't dislike it, it just reminds me of the other 2 BIG proposals but in a messier way. Maybe that's this architect's thing though?

In the end at least it's something different to break up the sterility of some of the condos in Vancouver. My favourite proposal at the moment there is still the black one with the red cuts in it. Can't remember the firm who did it or the name but it was really funky and different.

..its interesting to think that all it took was closing the City Center Airport in Edmonton and within a couple years it will have taller skyline than anywhere else in Canada besides TO.. Edmonton's is obviously punching up to meet its newly found potential I guess..

One tall building does not a taller skyline make.

Disagree. My Dad lives in Edmonton and whenever I visit I'm always struck by how you can see the downtown skyline from clear across the city (15 km out from the core in any direction) due to how flat the landscape is.

Bingo. You can see it from the West on Hwy 16 from about 40-50km out on top of that one hill, from the North you can see it from around 30. East and South a little less.

It's ok O-tac, I would be a bit defensive too if this backwater hick-town with only welders and pickups is constructing a taller tower than the infallible Calgary.

Lol!!! It's not right dammit! Oh well we're still ahead of you guys on the design front. We're obviously not Vancouver yet but we have a solid decade on the Chuck. You guys have us beat on the arena front, though I don't envy you guys for getting fucked by Katz.

In the context of this latest wave of more sophisticated designs, I find Vancouver House plain and simplistic. The Kengo tower is much more interesting to look at without being garish (imo).

There is another proposal that will be revealed soon, that will be right across the street from this one. "Exploding" was the word to describe it. Those twin towers in Korea come to mind.

Took more than the closing the city centre airport for the "Ice District" to "materialize" (still just holes in the ground afterall) When the next private180 metre investment materializes is of more interest.

Hopefully it looks less like the World Trade Centers exploding.
