Hopefully there are high schools being planned for the city as well. All these kids in elementary will eventually head off to high school at some point and it doesn't seem like the current High schools will have enough capacity.

There is supposed to be a high school north of the Greens on Gardiner in that not yet developed field at the end of Arens Road, but no dates yet for when it might be coming. I think the school division is hoping that the move to closing catchment and requiring students to attend the high school their elementary feeds to will take care of them problem.

Not surprised about Milliken. Hawrylak is at 785 last I heard and it's been years since a full school assembly didn't break fire code. The Christmas concert has to be held over two days (A-L last names the first day and M to Z the second day) because it just doesn't fit. Ready is over 500. JackMack has been at capacity since they opened, but not sure of the exact numbers.

And in the 80's-90's Regina was closing and demolishing schools. Great foresight there RPSB, but I mainly blame Doug Archer just cause he was terrible at everything.

The City is slow-walking it because of infrastructure and servicing costs, but they are letting the Rosewood portion in the east central area of Coopertown proceed.

The school boards have wish lists but the Province has no plans to pay for them. There are many underutilized high schools, including Miller, Balfour, Martin, Johnson and I am sure there are others.

A large new high school is probably pushing $100 million these days.

Scott is being replaced right now, but it has a tiny enrollment.

The city has confirmed new site for the Pacer's baseball diamonds. NE of the current diamonds but still within city limits.

If they need physical space, they'd likely just locate at the U of R. There's probably some room in one of the research buildings.

Not just those, but Sheldon is probably one of the most under-utilized schools in the system. My graduating class a few years ago was under 100. I think there were somewhere around 400 students in the school and I remember seeing so many classrooms empty, or not used for half the day. School assemblies would maybe fill half the auditorium.

As far as adding on classrooms, Sheldon would be one of the easiest sites to expand on, considering the huge amount of land it sits on and the straightforward design of the school.

Also, it is one of the easiest schools to get to, as it has easy central access and is right off the Lewvan. Easy for Harbour Landing and many NW neighbourhoods should they ever choose to shuttle.

Someone, write the school board a letter, this plan is genius.

I graduated from Sheldon about 10 years ago, and my graduating class was about 175, I think. So it's really shrunk since then (not that 650-700 students is really that big). But yeah, even when I was there it was underutilized.

The Coopertown school is desperately needed. St. Angela which currently serves the area has 16 portable classrooms, 700 students and 90 kindergarten students. Without a new school, in 4-5 years that school would be pushing 850 students. There is literally no playground space left to add portables and the bathroom situation is deplorable.

Nonsense. There is plenty of room for more portables if needed.

The problem is that There are 3 schools within less than a kilometer of Coopertown which has zero residents. The closest school to Lakeridge/Skywood is over 1.75 KM away and the other's are over 2KM.

Skywood is an infinitely better location and Coopertown should only have gotten one when the direct population warranted it.

That's a lovely aerial photo that doesn't include the 3 newest portables. Of course, most of that green space in the photo is not property of RCS so no, there is no real room for more portables, which are being added at a rate of 2 per year.

It's an aerial from May of this year.

And give me a break. There is nearly 2 acres of extra space at the site leaving aside the city park.

The point is, contrary to your assertions, Coopertown does not need a school.

RCS adds portables during the summer months, not during the middle of the school year. I can assure you more portables were added over the summer, thus making this aerial photo outdated.

There was a discussion on the Saskatoon thread about the 8th Street St. location and its subterranean parking lot, lack of space.
