Mississauga does have fare integration. The only GTA agency without it is the TTC.

Word of advice, next time you come to Toronto buy a presto card from the UPx booth at the airport. They are $6, so it's actually cheaper than paying a regular UPx fare, and you now have a full transit card for local use on the subway and whatnot. Buying one will save you at least $11 presuming you take the UPx to and from the airport. When you buy it you have to load money on it, so load $38 on it and you are good for 2 trips on the UPx.

Yeah, but you would pay 45 to 75 for a cab. If you are working/living downtown or you are heading there on business/pleasure why not?

Plus if you use presto it's only 19 dollars, and cheaper if you are not going downtown.

Jeddy1989 read us some old articles today about transit controversies in St. John's just prior to Confederation. We had streetcars and buses. Both operated by private companies that hated each other. Buses even intentionally rammed streetcars off the rails to delay them.

And in perhaps one of the best Newfie jokes ever: we ordered new buses manufactured in canada. They weren't powerful enough to climb our hills AND they opened into traffic as we still drove on the left. It was a disaster. During the resulting strike buses were replaced with everything from ambulances to hearses.

And things aren't all that much better today lol

When i flew to Toronto in 2010 there was a coach service that costed I about $20 from the airport to front street.

$27 is a bargain to get you downtown in 25 minutes. Not only is it cheaper then a cab it will cut your travel time by at least half during rush hour.

Since it seems to be the topic right now, I used the UPX 2 weeks ago when travelling to Northern ON (via Winnipeg!) for work. Super easy to get to from my office at College and Bay and a smooth, quick ride directly to Terminal 1. On the way back I was only riding to the Bloor station as I was meeting a friend for drinks near there. My plane pulled up to the gate at 8pm and was able to actually meet up at Bloor station around 8:35. I did run to the station and just caught a train, but there is no way this would be possible with a cab!

As a tourist I believe you can get a Presto card at the airport for $6 so the ride downtown would cost $25, and the ride back would be $19. I have Presto so it was $19 there and a bit less back (don't remember). I expensed it anyway - as the many business travellers will be doing - so it doesn't particularly matter.

I think the main reason for the criticism is that many people are viewing the UPX in terms of municipal public transit which of course tends to be highly subsidized. They aren't viewing it in the context of basically any other non-public transit option.

Port Credit to Long Branch is $5.55, and that's only a 5 minute trip. So $27 for 25 minutes doesn't seem as bad in comparison.

The problem is that the financial argument, already slim for an individual, is blown to bits as soon as you're two or more travelling. If a family of four wanted to get to the airport, it would cost over $100. I think that this is a problem for transit and transportation generally - it rarely takes groups into account, forcing them instead into automobiles and highways.

I know I've said it a thousand times, but I'll say it again - transit tickets, just like cars, should charge about the same for 1-5 persons.

UPX has a family fare of $55 each way. This is good for two adults and up to 3 children. So slightly cheaper than a cab if you include tip.
